Sashay Away: The Exit Interview, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Week 8 – Mama Said Knock You Out!

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” or “How I Met Your Drag Mother”

It was the dragmother of all challenges on this week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race. From picking out each others’ baby photos to transforming a busload of elderhostel from frail old fairies into glam tranny grannies, it was an hour’s worth of unforgettable TV (dementia notwithstanding).

Watching our final five Drag Racers bond and tussle somewhat with their Golden Girl proteges was compelling stuff. They had to be firm, yet nice. Hardcore, yet soft-hearted. And yes, they had to either wheel their drag meemaws out on stage, or carry them off!

And truthfully, no matter what crabby judges (or even fun guest judges like the legendary Cloris Leachman and Debbie Reynolds) had to say, all of the girls did a pretty fine job. I was living for Tyra Sanchez and Big Tyra! And Pandora’s mother was a kooky nudist with a dirty mind. (What’s not to love?)

A Drag-Racing Grandma, or an extra in the Shady Pines production of Jesus Christ Superstar? Only her attending nurse knows for sure…

SPOILER ALERT: But in the end, we did lose one of everyone’s favorite gals. The remaining weeks of the race (only 4 to go!) will sparkle with a little less sunshine and fruity flair. To get the all the exit dish from this week’s dearly departed, just read on…

Pandora & Litter Boxx: When Moms Attack?

Yep, big huge mother-tucking bummer tonight, eh? Pandora Boxx was sent home to Rochester. Aaarrrrggghhh! Did you curse at the screen? Do you blame Santino? Are you gonna stage a protest outside of the Interior Illusions lounge?

I know I’m bummed. But I was also terrified that Jujubee would be ousted. And frankly, I had thought it was Jujubee’s time to pack it in. But alas, I know Pandora Boxx leaves with her sparkling wit, her spunky spirit and her sense-of-humor and fabulousness intact. And I’m guessing this isn’t the last we’ve seen of her on TV…

But enough, whimpering. Let’s hear what the bitch herself has to say about getting sent home on Mother’s Day. Oy vey…

Pandora, glowing in her rocker chick hellaciousness.

How do you feel about leaving the show when you did?
Pandora Boxx: It was such a mixture of emotions. I was completely disappointed, aggravated and maybe a touch relieved. Disappointed because I wanted to win or at least be top three. Aggravated because I felt that no matter what I did they wanted something else from me. Relieved because even though it was an amazing experience that I am so thankful to have had, it was a lot of blood, sweat and tears. I was happy to leave the scrutiny of the runway behind.

Pandora and Litter Boxx: An episode of bonding, bikinis and something extra tucked down mama’s drawers.

What was the biggest lesson you learned from the competition?
The biggest lesson I learned was not to second guess myself. Every time I did, I received the harshest critiques on the runway. I really learned to believe in myself and that if I really want something, I can make it happen.

Boom Boxx: Pandora fires off her cannon in the season’s first episode, and the very first challenge.

What would you like to say to the judges in your defense? Any parting points you’d like to make about your elimination?
I think that Merle said it best when she said defended me and said that I was a drag queen! We are drag queens and that’s what I want to be. I don’t want to be a real girl runway model and many times I felt that’s how I was being judged. Go Merle! I would also like to let Henry Rollins know that I would be happy to turn him on again sometime. Grrrr!

Realness and runway: A Pandora combo platter

What happened behind the scenes that you think we should know about? Any fun interactions you wish we could have seen?
Well, I know the show isn’t about me but I had a lot of funny lines and such that never made the cut. Sigh. I wish there would have been more of Kathy Griffin and I because there were some really funny moments there. I guess it’s got to be all about the competition though. You’ll just have to wait for The Pandora Boxx Show. (hint, hint)

Who do you think deserves to win RuPaul’s Drag Race?
Well I thought I did, but I guess that’s not going to happen. Unless, by some forced trickery they throw a wild card into the top three and have a bitch throwdown to see who the real winner is. I better keep these razor blades in my weave, just in case.

Ru with Kathy Griffin (Pandora’s new bff) back during the Season 2 Premiere.

Who was your favorite fellow competitor? Why?
Kathy Griffin. She really pulls of the realness really well. I hope she wins.

What was the most difficult thing about the competition?
Listening to some of the contestants’ inane blather. Awful. Also the long days were very draining. I hated being cut off from everyone. I missed my boyfriend so very much!

What was your favorite moment throughout the competition?
“Raspberries!” The Snatch Game of course! It was so much fun! Watching RuPaul crack up over my answers was like getting a kiss from baby Jesus.

Genius!

Juju and Pandora, during last night’s elimination round. Girls, you’re both legendary…

A few quick questions about your fellow contestants:
Who’s the prettiest? Tati & Juju are absolutely stunning to me.
Nicest? Jessica & Juju
Shadiest/Meanest? Raven was the meanest on the show, but she’s actually much nicer in person.
Smartest? Pandora Boxx is the most smartest.
Most talented? She just got eliminated ;-)
Most overrated? Santino.

Complete this sentence: After leaving RuPaul’s Drag Race, I just want to…
Climb every mountain, ford every stream!

Finally, what’s next for you? Where can your fans find you?
I’ll be at the corner of CokeWhore Ave & Main St at 3:52am later on tonight. But seriously, you can check me out in the play I wrote and will star in called The Lipstick Massacre for 13 performances at the Geva Theatre Center in Rochester, New York starting May 27th. I also have a summer tour in the works which will be starting in Miami at Mekka.

Our first glimpse of the pretty, witty Pandora…

I am so disappointed Pandora did not make it to the final two. She was a selling-point of the show!

I know I’ve posted this a million times, well not really a million, but Pandora needs her own TV show, NOW!!!! She has the total package, no I didn’t mean…. but she has the chops to do it all, and the brains! So I will be waiting with baited breath to see her again on Logo or Bravo or QVC!

I AM SO VERY DISSAPOINTED THAT PANDORA BOXX HAD TO SASHAY AWAY..SHE HAS SO MUCH TALENT IT Was really painful to watch… people like myself who are straight had little or no interest in RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE UNTIL PANDORA BOXX WAS ON. HER STYLE AND CAMPY DRAG GOT ME HOOKED NOW I LOVE LOGO..SHE IS ABLE TO ATTRACT ALL KINDS OF FANS AND HELPS SO MUCH TO MAKE DRAG MAINSTREAM…I THINK SHE WAS A HUGE ASSET TO LOGO AND RATINGS WILL MOST CERTAINLY DROP WITHOUT HER ON RDR….NOT A WISE BUSINESS DECISION FOR LOGO THIS TIME !

    SHE SHOULD’VE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its all Santino’s fault!!!!!!! If he wasn’t so busy looking for a “real” girl, fashion model look and focused on the actual talent he would’ve seen that no one could top Pandora and that he needed to get his head out of Tyra’s ass!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad Pandora went home. Jujubee over Pandora any day. Plus, though I started out liking Pandora, every episode I started to hate her a little more because of her passive aggressive bitchiness. At least the other queens are upfront about their bitchiness.

  • Bookworm Said on 04/05/10 at 11:02 pm

Her and Jessica Wild were the two most disappointing, and surprising, eliminations for me. I was truly shocked to hear that Pandora had been eliminated. I love Tati, but I was sure she was going to be going.

  • JMC_in_the_ATL Said on 04/06/10 at 12:02 am

Pandora was the best of the night (and the season), not the worst. I sincerely hope that Ru doesn’t actually think that anyone would want to pay money to see Tyra or Tati. Aside from walking down a runway, neither has any discernable drag talent. And runway the absolute LEAST important aspect of drag.

JuJu is the only one I would pay to see of the remaining queens. She funny, fabulous, and fierce, and she would do great talking to audiences off the cuff. Once she’s cut, I’m done until the reunion show, to watch either Ms. Boxx or Ms. Wild get the fan favorite check.

  • guinevere Said on 04/06/10 at 2:18 am

Oh, Pandora…you were definitely tied with JuJubee as my favorite to win. I know that jerk Santino didn’t like your style (could he have made his favoritism any more obvious??), but I really thought Ru would see through that crap to your shining personality. Although…I have no idea what I would have done if the Race came down to you and JuJu.

Also: I will be personally offended if “The Pandora Boxx Show” isn’t on my television within the next couple of seasons. Just saying. ;)

Comment…I love Pandora, she was my fav.

I know it’s gonna come down to Raven and Tyra and I don’t like either one. I did like Raven somewhat in the beginning, but now she just complains about everyone, she also reminds me of Chantal, who also thought her crap didn’t stink, guess again?

Tyra has softened since being called on her antics, but I don’t like either one, I am hoping I am wrong and Ju Ju wins.

I love you Pandora Boxx you were my favorite Queen. Can’t wait to see you closet. What size are you? and when you come to Bosstown we can go shopping.
Santino is a jerk but damn hes one scary looking jerk.
The other queens are only interesting because they are in a competition. Has anyone else noticed how the quality of the queens is dropping. In the first show Ongina and Nina were unique. I dont feel that way about any of the new queens. When they walked into the room I thought New york dolls all over again.

Comment…I watched the finale last night and I have to say that this is the second year that I have been disappointed with who RuPaul chose as The Next Drag Superstar… Come on Tyra Sanchez… you have to be kidding me. I have been doing drag for 22 years and to see someone come on to the set with that attitude and walk away with that crown. You had JuJu B.-loved her… she is truly a Diva… gorgeous and multi talented. Then you had Raven… truly a superstar in her own right. She is multi-faceted and gorgeous. A true entertainer in every way. and then Tyra Sanchez… single faceted… needs to work on the wig lines… always throwin a pitty party for herself… trying to make people feel sorry for her. She stated last night that she needed to get a place of her own that she sleeps on her drag mother’s couch. Gurl, if you can’t get a place of your own doing drag then get a clue… get a JOB and get out there and support yourself. I do not think she deserved to be in the top 6 much less the winner… sadly enough to say that my partner and I both agree that we are not sure if we will watch it next year. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE NEXT DRAG SUPERSTAR NOT THE NEXT RUPAUL WANNABE!!! RUPAUL WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?????
