It is almost time for the 2012 Emmy Awards and, being a website, we are obligated to tell you who we think will win big! Don’t agree with our picks? Well then you are wrong and stupid.
So scroll down to see who we think will be taking home trophies in the comedy categories, and who we think should be taking home those trophies instead.
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series
Nominees: Lena Dunham (Girls), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep)
Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She is basically Emmy royalty and while Poehler is very, very funny on Parks, JLD had the best written and funniest character, male or female, this year.
Should Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It’s a strong, strong category, especially when you consider actors like Martha Plimpton, Laura Dern, Laura Linney and Christina Applegate didn’t even get noms, but JLD is the best of the best.
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series
Nominees: Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Don Cheadle (House of Lies), Louis C.K. (Louie), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men)
Will Win: Jim Parsons. We do not watch this show and what we have seen is painful, but people seem to love it.
Should Win: Alec Baldwin. We really want to say Larry or Louis, who both do an amazing job playing themselves, but year after year Alec is still the best in this category.
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy
Nominees: Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)
Will Win: Kristen Wiig. Right? They have to reward her for being so good and making SNL watchable.
Should Win: Jane Krakowski. Seriously Emmy voters? If 30 Rock goes off air and you never honor Krakowski you are the biggest group of idiots ever. We also wouldn’t mind Wever taking it of the nominated girls.
Outstanding Supprting Actor In A Comedy
Nominees: Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family),Max Greenfield (New Girl), Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live)
Will Win: Max Greenfield. We know everyone is predicting a Modern Family dude, but those four will be splitting the vote in a big way. And Greenfield benefits immensely as voters received the wrong tape and were sent the right one after voting closed, meaning everyone saw his tape last and, even though one shouldn’t count, an extra tape. He’s got it.
Should Win: Nick Offerman. Way to go again Emmys.
Oustanding Writing, Comedy
Nominees: Chris McKenna (“Remedial Chaos Theory,” Community), Lena Dunham (“Pilot,” Girls), Louis C.K. (“Pregnant,” Louie), Amy Poehler (“The Debate,” Parks and Recreation), Michael Schur (“Win, Lose or Draw,” Parks and Recreation)
Will Win: Louis C.K., Amy Poehler or Lena Dunham. Voters are going to want to reward these three at some point, and given they all have multiple nominations one of them is bound to take this Emmy home.
Should Win: Michael Schur. The Parks finale was hysterical and touching and actually made us cry.
Outstanding Directing, Comedy
Nominees: Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Palestinian Chicken” – Robert B. Weide, Girls,” “She Did” – Lena Dunham, Louie,” “Duckling” – Louis C.K., Modern Family,” “Virgin Territory” – Jason Winer, Modern Family, “Baby on Board” – Steven Levitan, New Girl, “Pilot” – Jake Kasdan
Will Win: Louis C.K. or Lena Dunham. See above.
Should Win: Jake Kasdan. New Girl was the most hyped new show last year due in large part to the much beloved pilot episode.
Outstanding Comedy Series
Nominees: The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Veep
Should Win: Veep. It and Parks and Rec were the two funniest shows last year
Will Win: Modern Family. For what, we assume and hope, is the final time.
