27% Of Americans Think You Can Get HIV From Sharing A Drinking Glass

HIV/AIDS has been with us for more than three decades, with billions spent on education, awareness and prevention. And yet studies reveal Americans are as clueless about the virus—and how its spread—as ever.

A Kaiser Family Foundation survey from 2013 unpacked some shocked statistics—like that 27% of Americans think HIV can be spread from a drinking glass and 17% don't know it can't be transmitted by touching a toilet seat.

We'd like to think the LGBT community is a little more educated about HIV than most, but this kind of ignorance almost certainly contributes to the huge uptick in infections among gay and bisexual young men.
