5 People Hospitalized After Drinking Poppers At Parklife Music Festival

Over the weekend, Parklife Music Festival in Manchester, UK saw at least 5 people fall ill after ingesting "legal highs"–aka poppers.

Authorities apparently confiscated more than 400 bottles of the substance, which are commonly sniffed versus being orally consumed in order to cause a rapid head rush or for enhanced sexual experiences.

If swallowed, the substance can decrease blood oxygen flow to organs, and result in unconsciousness and choking on vomit.

With side effects including death, Chief Inspector Gary Simpson is urging people in the area to stay away from this legal high.

We are now extremely concerned that people are drinking poppers and this poses a significant risk to life and would urge anyone using, or considering using them or any 'legal high' to cease from doing so immediately, before it's too late.

Anyone who has consumed any of these substances is urged to seek medical help immediately. We are investigating the sale of these poppers and I want to stress the seriousness of selling or distributing 'legal highs' and warn people that we will not tolerate it.

This is the Inspector's polite way of saying, "Don't be f*cking stupid enough to drink cleaning fluid."
