5-Year-Old Boy Kicked Out Of School Club For Wearing Princess Dresses

A 5-year-old British boy was kicked out of an after-school program because he likes to wear princess dresses.

Romeo Clarke of Rugby, about 75 miles outside London, was made to leave the Buzz Children’s Club after-school program, which is run by the Rugby Christian Fellowship, because his attire was “confusing” the other children.

Romeo's mother, Georgina Clarke, told  The Mirror that club organizer Bex Venables “took me to one side after I dropped him off and said, ‘Romeo will be welcomed back when he wears clothes [that] match his gender. “I was so cross when I was told he couldn’t wear dresses I was speechless," she added. "All I could ask was why.”

Venable says Romeo is only being “asked to wear clothing of the gender stated on his registration form, which states male.” She says the request is in line with the policy of Romeo’s school, which has separate uniforms for boys and girls.

But Romeo's love of frocks is no passing fancy: Mrs. Clarke estimates her son has some 100 dresses and nearly a dozen pair of kiddie heels. And his classmates don't seem to have a problem with it: Mrs. Clarke says she asked other parents if they were bothered by her son’s love of pink attire and princess dresses, and none were.

Still, just like the 9-year-old told to leave his My Little Pony backpack at home, Venable insisted Romeo she gave the order “to avoid... possible conflict or teasing from other children.”

Yes, let's leave that to the grownups.
