62% Of Christian Business Owners Oppose Denying Any Goods Or Services To LGBT People On Religious Grounds

For all the cries of "religious freedom," two-thirds of small-business owners say they oppose discrimination against LGBT people in the marketplace, according to a new poll.

A survey of 500 small businesses by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research found that a surprising 55% of Republican business owners also oppose denying goods or services based on religious beliefs—even companies that provide wedding related services, like caterers and photographers.

And as many as 80% of small-business owners support a federal law protecting LGBT people from discrimination in hotels, restaurants and other public accommodations.

"From big business to small mom-and-pop shops, businesses are leading the way in creating an inclusive LGBT community,” said Laura Durso, LGBT Research and Communications Project Director at the Center for American Progress, which commissioned the study.  “They know you can’t be pro-business and pro-discrimination at the same time.”
