9 Things To Look For In A Winter Boyfriend

Six pack abs and svelte arms are ~so~ last summer.

With only a few short weeks until the official start of winter, many of us are on the thirsty hunt for our winter boyfriends. You know, those snuggly, lovely hunks with whom we'll cuddle away the frigid months of December, January and February.

They're the ones we'll turn to on snow days, the ones we'll curl up with in front of fires and the ones with whom we'll share large mugs of steaming hot coffee while reading books under thick blankets. We tend to invest in these men, because once temperatures plummet and the heavy snows come in, there's very little chance that we'll be leaving our homes to meet anybody else any time soon.

Which is why it's so important to land a winter bae that brings more to the table than just a warm body.

For some tips and tricks on which qualities to look out for in the perfect winter boyfriend, check out our list below!

1. A Little Extra Cushion

While a tight, sculpted bod is obviously sexy and fun to look at (and touch and lick and...), for your winter boyfriend, you'll want to find a man with some meat on his bones. He'll make for the perfect cuddle buddy, plus studies show that a little extra body fat makes for a more energetic sexual partner.

2. A Flair in the Kitchen

There's nothing better than a warm pot of hearty stew or chili on a really cold winter day, so make sure your winter boyfriend knows his way around the kitchen. Take a page out of the books of bears and squirrels and spend your winter gorging on good eats and hibernating with your hubby.

3. A Healthy Dose of Creativity

Though getting snowed in can be wonderful and whimsical (and romantic and sexy, given the right circumstances) even the slothiest of homebodies will get bored after a few days cooped inside.

That's why finding a creative winter partner is absolutely essential for spicing up the mundane. They'll think of countless activities to do: blanket forts, micro scavenger hunts, elaborate photo collages, homemade board games, and maybe even a few new activities in the bedroom, too.

4. A Playful Spirit

The months of December, January and February can sometimes feel endlessly sad. It's easy to sink into depression, to let these frigid months fleck by without an eye turned upwards.

However, if you manage to snag yourself a playful winter boo, you'll spend your winter in a frisky daze, making naughty snow angels, getting into sexy snowball fights and slipping gooey s'mores into each other's mouths.

5. A Great Entertainment Hookup

TBH, if you're anything like us, you'll spend most of the winter catching up on TV and watching movies, so finding a frosty bae with all them accounts (Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, HBO, Spotify, heck, even Tidal) is a must.

6. A Little Scruff

No hate to our smooth-skinned brethren, but there's just something delicious about cozying up to a man with a hairy face and chest in the winter time. It's like dating a blanket who will also rub your feet, tell you you're pretty and make out with you sometimes.

7. Engaging Stories

With the sun setting earlier and earlier each day, you'll find that you and your winter love will spend a lot of time in the darkness, which can feel pretty bleak until you realize the best stories and secrets are shared in the dark.

Find a man who knows how to spin a good yarn and your darkest nights will be filled with funny childhood memories, fantastical recountings of travels abroad and sweeping tales of the winter loves that came before you.

8. A Sense of Adventure

For the days when you really want to carpe the bejeezus out of the diem, regardless of how cold or snowy or wet the day might be, you'll want a winter boof who's willing to tag along for the adventure.

Maybe you go ice fishing or dog sledding or snowshoeing in some quiet sanctuary of a forest. Or maybe you'll just sludge through the snow to marvel at the various holiday lights strung up around your neighborhood, hand in hand, facing the blistering frost together.

9. An Open Heart

A trait important year-round, but perhaps especially so during the winter, because honestly, the winter months have a way of bringing out the most fragile parts of our hearts. They stir up nostalgia and make us yearn for things from which we thought we'd moved on. They trouble us and sadden us and make us feel a little hopeless.

But find a man with an open heart, and the winter becomes a bit more bearable. It becomes a time of love and, if not love, at least companionship and fondness. It becomes a time of listening and sharing and giving and receiving; put simply, it becomes a time to cherish and enjoy.
