A State-By-State Map Of How Many Guys Put Face Pics In Their Scruff Profiles

Users of gay hook-up apps can be cagey about their identities: Want to see their abs? Sure! Their dick? No problem. A face pic? Get outta here!

The guys behind Scruff created an interactive map to show how many users are inclined to give us a look at their visage.

"One of biggest questions people ask today is 'how is gay acceptance evolving?," notes Scruff CPO Jason Marchant. "We asked ourselves if the prevalence of face pics showed any kind of regional differences. Our hypothesis was that a higher prevalence of face pics may correspond with greater gay acceptance in an area."

Utilizing data from April 2015, the top five face-pic states are Oregon (59.5%), Washington (58.6%), Colorado (58%), Vermont (56.3%), and Minnesota (55.8%), while the bottom five regions are Arkansas (47.3%), Alabama (46.4%), Hawaii (45.9%), Mississippi (45.1%) and Puerto Rico (39.8%).

Was Scruff's hypothesis accurate?

Well, all of the top-ranking states have marriage equality—Vermont was one of the first—but but the bottom five, particularly those states in the deep south, seem to fit with the notion that where there's less acceptance, there's fewer mugs.

Check out the full interactive map and see where your state and city land.
