Why does a gay man climb the highest mountains in the world? Because he can! Cason Crane (the perfect name for a gay mountain climber) recently ascended the peak of Mt. Everest as part of his Rainbow Summits project, which raises money for LGBT youth in need.

What's the connection between mountain climbings and gay kids? "The answer lies in the challenge," an earnest Crane wrote in Huff Post. "Mountaineering is never the easy path, and unanticipated obstacles are constantly encountered. It can be unforgiving and risky. It can be cold. And it is often a lonely pursuit. So, in my opinion, can be growing up as an LGBTQ youth."

Not too stark, huh?

Everest is the latest summit in Crane's quest to climb the largest mountain on each continent. (Um, size queen much?) He's the first openly gay person to do it—assuming there aren't any out-of-the-closet Sherpas that want to take credit. Meanwhile, we're waiting for Crane's brothers Frasier and Niles to weigh in.
