Adam Rippon Is Retiring From Competitive Figure Skating

Since the 2018 Winter Games, the out pro athlete has had his hands full as an activist and celeb.

The rumors are true: America's Gay Sweetheart™ is hanging up his skates.

Adam Rippon, who famously became the first out gay male athlete to compete in the Winter Olympics during the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, confirmed the announcement to CBS News on Monday.

During the Games, Rippon took home a bronze medal for Team U.S.A. in the team skating event and placed 10th in the men's single skating competition. Since competing in Pyeongchang, he's gone on to become a veritable advocate for the queer community, speaking out against the anti-LGBTQ Trump administration and encouraging young people to vote in the midterm elections.

The 29-year-old also tried his hand at TV appearances, lining up a guest role on NBC's hit Will & Grace revival and winning the most recent cycle of Dancing With The Stars: Athletes.

While we'll miss seeing Rippon on the ice, we wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors, no matter how #Basic they may be.
