Adam Rippon's Olympic Costume and Skates Headed to the Smithsonian

They will soon be on display at the American History Museum.

Adam Rippon has donated his Olympic costume and skates to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.

The figure skater, who won the Bronze at this year's Games in South Korea, making him the first out gay U.S. male athlete to medal in a Winter Olympics, shared the news on Twitter.

"Pretty cool to soon have something on display in the American History Museum. Now, I just need to convince someone that they need to be next to the ruby slippers," he wrote.

Rippon not only grabbed the nation's attention for his impressive talents on the ice, but also for his winning personality and willingness to stand up to Vice President Mike Pence.

While many Olympians, even those who bring home medals, often fade away, the 28 year-old emerged from Pyeongchang a full-blown star.

Since competing in the Olympics, he was named one of Time's "100 Most Influential People," won Dancing With the Stars, and is headed for an appearance on Will & Grace.

Considering the run he's on, it's likely he'll get that wish of seeing his skates sitting side-by-side with Dorothy's slippers.
