Adam Rippon Almost Took His Oscars Harness Look To A Sexier Level

"If it were up to me, I would always push it more."

Twitter had a lot of thoughts about that polarizing leather harness Adam Rippon wore earlier this month to the 90th Academy Awards, but he might've broken the Internet altogether with an alternate look.

In a wacky new interview for First We Feast’s web series Hot Ones, the Olympic figure skater attacks some very hot chicken wings while answering questions about PyeongChang and beyond. It turns out that his controversial Oscars outfit, designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino, almost had much spicier styling.

"I love me some Jeremy Scott because I think Jeremy Scott is a genius," the 28-year-old bronze medalist tells Hot Ones host Sean Evans. "And he’s crazy and his ideas are bizarre and wild. And I’m crazy, bizarre, and wild. And some people have called me a genius."

"When Jeremy took the classic tuxedo and he took the shoulders out and we added the harness to it, where it felt like you were strapped into it, I just felt really fuckin’ cool," Rippon continues.

"And when we were first doing it, Jeremy was like, 'Don’t wear a shirt.' And I was like, 'You’re right. I shouldn’t do that.' And then the whole team around me was like, “Adam, you’re going to wear a shirt.” And I was like, 'Oh, yeah. You’re right. It’s the Oscars.'” Damn. So close!

"If it were up to me," Rippon says, "I would always push it more."

“His tux is a nod to Old Hollywood with a twist,” Scott previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve exposed the shoulders; we mixed this with a black leather harness and patent leather bow tie and satin cummerbund.”

The first openly gay man to qualify and win a medal for the U.S. Winter Olympics team, Rippon recently received the Visibility Award at Human Rights Campaign’s L.A. gala, where he finally met one of his not-so-secret admirers.
