Another week, a few more records broken by British sensation Adele. Her album 21 has notched another week at number one, that is 17 for those keeping count, meaning it has spent the most weeks at number one since the soundtrack to The Bodyguard made it to 20 in 1992-93. And that’s just the beginning of this week’s feats.
Adele’s third single, “Set Fire to the Rain,” dethroned Rihanna’s “We Found Love” for the top spot on the singles chart, making her the first singer ever to have three songs hit number one while their album was also number one. Usher and the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever managed to have two songs hit number one at the same time as their album, but no one has made it to three.
This week Adele will likely drop due to the release of Tim McGraw’s new album but will surely rise again, especially after the Grammy Awards. Let’s also not forget that “Rumor Has It” and “Turning Tables” could also prove to be very strong singles off the album.
All this from an album that was released in February.
