The Tony Awards: Neil Patrick Harris Rules, Bret Michaels Gets Clocked, Liza & Billy Elliot Win

LIZA
Liza and cast members from Hair, Shrek & everything else serve up a love-in at the Tonys!

The Tony Awards last night were a fun mess. The show moved pretty tightly with Neil Patrick Harris as its fantastic, yeomanlike host, moving it all along clad in a leathery-looking tuxedo. The big opening number medley gave us Liza, the cast of Hair attacking the audience, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Stockard Channing looking drag-queeny and a sluggish Bret Michaels getting throttled by moving scenery.

Billy Elliot won most of the big awards, including Best Musical and its three young Billys jointly took home the prize for Best Actor in Musical. Their gobsmacked acceptance speech (shades of Anna Paquin's Oscar win) was adorable! Liza rocked the stage as a performer, presenter and winner (for Liza's at the Palace) and her legendary ebullience never gets old.

Billy-Elliots-Winners
David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish and Trent Kowalik, aka "Billy Elliot." Yay!

AfterElton's got a great write-up and list of winners. One complaint: Whoever was directing the camera coverage of the show was drunk! I'm sure it's hard to capture all the dancing and singing when a huge group number is happening on stage, but the big musical moments during the show were a slipshod mess, camera-wise. Somebody needs to talk to someone from, say, the MTV Video Music Awards to find out how to cover these kinds of things.

Best moment of the night? Apart from moving acceptance speeches (Karen Olivo from West Side Story, Jerry Herman snagging a Lifetime Achievement Award, the three Billy Elliots and a wacky, nearly ranting Alice Ripley) and some fun peformances by the casts of Hair and West Side Story, it was Neil Patrick Harris' fun closing number, sung as the show wrapped. Watch it now, but hurry because I'm sure it will be yanked down soon.

Shirtless Tennis Hotties: Need We Say More?

Fernando-verdasco-cosmoJuanmartin.img_assist_custom
From left: Spain's Fernando Verdasco is currently ranked #8; Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro is #5 in tennis-land. And the both look rather nice, don't ya think?

A shameless post on a nice summer morning: Hot Male Tennis Players shirtless (and then some)!

We're just stealing a post from our pals at AfterElton; go there for lots more nice pics of athletic tennis lads looking cute, in honor of the French Open and all. This batch of guys may introduce you to some raquet-swingers you didn't know, and it's always good to be educated, right?

And yes, we haven't forgotten the obvious ones: Roddick, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Blake... Enjoy!

Neil Patrick Harris & Portia de Rossi Top the Hot 100!

280x360_NeilPatrickHarris280x360_PortiaHOT100
Presenting the king and queen of gay sexy-land!!!! Via AfterElton & AfterEllen.

Or maybe we should call them Neil Patrick Hotness and Portia de Hotsi? Today the big gay sites AfterElton and AfterEllen have revealed the results of their annual HOT 100 survey, wherein gays and lesbians from across the land voted for who they think is most shag-tastic. And NPH and Mrs. Ellen came in on top for who the queers love!

Yep, Neil Patrick Harris knocked Jake Gyllenhaal off of the top spot (Jakey had won the last 2 years); and Portia de Rossi took this year's lesbian crown of foxiness, which had been worn by Tina Fey and Leisha Hailey in the past. It's kinda cool to have actual out gays topping the list, right?

So, did your picks make the list? Go see! Both Barack and Michelle Obama made the lists; which means for the first time in a looooong time, the U.S. has a sexy first couple! (But you knew that already.)

Also, both sites have lists of the Hottest Out Gay Men/Women, the Hottest Men of Color and the Hottest Women of Color, and since we're all about MILFs and DILFs, there are lists of Hot Women Over 40 and Hot Men Over 40 (the "Hot Men Over 40" link's not working yet; for now, go to the main Hot 100 wrap-up).

Enjoy! Now have a whole bunch of new hotties to choose from when decorating your locker! Dreamy!

Click thru for the full coverage of the AFterElton Hot 100 and the AfterEllen Hot 100 lists for 2009.

My AfterElton Hot 100 Picks, feat. Javier, Krod, Russell & 2 Ryans!

330x450_javier_bardem_arms

I don't know who that chick is in the photo above, but she'd best get her grubby paws off of Javier Bardem. He's mine!!!!

Senor Bardem gets made my top ten list of hotties I'm nominating for inclusion in AfterElton's Hot 100, their annual survey of who gay men think are scorchingly sweet and shag-worthy. After the jump, see my full list... It includes an NFL hottie, sexy vampire bait, an adorable gay Brit, an out TV starlet, a rapper, a choreographer/director, and a sword wielding warrior!

See if you agree... Then VOTE for your hot faves!

Krod Mandoon's Sean Maguire & Matt Lucas, Interviewed!!!

I already had a big crush on Sean Maguire, the star of Comedy Central's pretty fabulous new spoofy fantasy series, Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. Now it just got bigger!

Watch the above interview (via AfterElton)! Sean's uber-charming and loves the gays! And, of course, his big gay co-star, Matt Lucas (of Little Britain brilliance) is madly fun as always, too.

OMK! (Which stands for "Oh My KROD!!!")

And if you want a preview of the Bi-Clops (that's a bisexual Cyclops) that Sean and Matt speak fondly of above, watch below!!!

Hot 100 Voting Frenzy: Dennis Hensley Weighs In!

The voting is getting frantic over at AfterElton.com, as man-lovers are chiming in to rank the hottest men in showbiz (and beyond). Yep, they're assembling this year's HOT 100, which is their annual survey to find out who gay men think are kings of the studly heap.

Watch funnyman Dennis Hensley's festive vlog above, to see who some of NYC's cutest and funniest are sweating for. Then go to AfterElton's Hot 100 Voting page and let 'em know who pitches your tent.

It's springtime, after all. Feel it!

Hot 100 Voting Time! Hot Men! Hot Women! And Yes... Hotness!

400x135_AfterEllenHot-100
400x190_AfterEltonHOT100

Attention all your horn-dogs and revved up lesbians! Sugar daddies and cougars take note! Twittering twinks and bad-ass butchies, pay attention! It's the time of year when we all get to cast a vote, and let our voices be heard! YES WE CAN, vote for who's the hottest man and woman ever (right now)!!!

Our big gay showbiz sibling sites, AfterEllen and AfterElton have opened the voting for their 3rd annual HOT 100 Lists. And folks are already sounding off!!!

This time around there are extra-special categories, too. You can get specific and also vote for the Hottest Person of Color, the Hottest Out (as in openly gay/les) Person and the Hottest Over 40 (Woo-hoo! DILFs!).

For the last 2 years, Jakey Gyllenhotness has swept the AfterElton honors. But it's been a quiet year for Jake. Will he top the list again? I'm thinking he might wanna watch out for James Franco...

320x400_JakeyG300x500_JamesFranco

Woman-wise, last year Tina Fey won, and in '07 it was Leisha Hailey. Who's up next?

300x500_TinaFey300x500_LeishaHailey

I'm guessing Rachel Maddow ranks high. And maybe even our scorching First Lady, Mama Obama!

300x500_RachelMaddow300x500_MichelleObama

VOTE and COMMENT (on hot guys)! VOTE and COMMENT (on hot women)! VOTE and COMMENT now (on all the hotness)!

Gay Leprechauns, Kelly Clarkson & Shamrock Shakes! It's "Sounds Like a Hit" Vlog

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

AfterElton's current "Sounds Like a Hit" vlog is the perfect antidote to any green-beer hangover you might be experiencing (I know that wouldn't come til later, but who cares...). Kyle and Brian are adorable as they don lots o'green and dish and kvetch about gay Irishmen, hot rugby players, McDonalds' rare-as-a-four-leaf-clover Shamrock Shakes, Clay Aiken, Rosie O'Donnell and Kelly Clarkson's latest album.

And doesn't Brian (in the upper left corner) look he's wearing a gay-leprechaun version of Aretha Franklin's hat?

The rainbow ends here, kids!

Hey American Idol, Set Free the Gays!

AdamRyanIdol Idol contestant Adam Lambert and host Ryan Secrest.

The LA Times has had it with American Idol's weird policy of not acknowledging (or perhaps actively silencing) its queer singers. It's gotten to the point where it's creepy and downright fascist! Cmon, Idol! Let the gays be gay!

Completely Adorable Russell Tovey Gives Very Cute Interview

375x450_RussellTovey

Super-cute and very talented young British actor Russell Tovey (The History Boys) is out. And he's starring in the UK sci-fi BBC3 series Being Human as a werewolf.

He also likes pink T-shirs and being flirty, as this very nice little interview (via AfterElton!) demonstrates. Awwwww...

Luke & Noah from "As The World Turns" Rock Out on AfterElton!

450x350_JakeVanRock

This may be one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Onscreen heart-throbs Luke and Noah (Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann, respectively) from As The World Turns stopped by the MTV and Logo offices recently, and played the video game Rock Band with AfterElton's Brian Juergens. Like, really!

Both Van and Jake are mega-adorable. And this was all spurred by their forthcoming appearances on a big "Rock the Soap" cruise, which is a music-themed fan-cruise where soap-opera addicts get to mingle and float around the Mexican coast with daytime stars. Freaky, right?

The hard part: Who's cuter? Jack in his woolly scarf, or Van in his flannel? Go to AfterElton to watch!

Joan Jett, consider yourself served.

Dustin Lance Black and Sean Penn's Backstage Oscar Video!

I posted a link to this earlier, but above is the great video of Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black talking to the press backstage after winning, and giving more passionate discourse about the gay-rights importance of his film.

And below is Best Actor champ Sean Penn also serving the right wing a bruising backstage, too.

And AfterElton has posts of Black and Penn's onstage speeches, if ya wanna relive those choice moments, too. Go gay!

Real World Brooklyn's JD: Interviewed!

Jdimg1

AfterElton's chatting up Magnum-man J.D.! He talks about his admiration for Pedro Zamora, and then holds nothing back when dishing on his current onscreen roomies Devyn ("she's on this high horse") and  Katelynn ( "she manipulates people..."). Ouch!

Then he calls out happy little freakazoid Chet! "I wasn’t like the most flamboyant gay guy, you know? Obviously Chet had more gay tendencies than I did, so everybody thought he was the gay one." JD, telling it like it is. Or his version, anyway.

Cheyenne Jackson Appreciates Availability of Mermaids & Tranny Porn

CheyenneWhoopSandy
Whoopi, Sandy and Cheyenne at Broadway Backwards Monday night.

Broadway superstud (my term, not his) Cheyenne Jackson got quizzed by New York Magazine about his personal love affair with NYC. It's cute!

Jackson opines about city noise, Donald Trump, the new Times Square vs. old Times Square (that's the mermaids & tranny porn reference), and makes himself the new spokesman for DiGiorno pizza! Check it out!

And catch him at Feinstein's for his one-man cabaret show in early March. If you can get in.

Gay in the U.K. Vlog: Snowstorms, Stephen Fry, Queer History & More!

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Those cheeky gays from London, Tim and Ryan, keep serving up choice vlogs over on AfterElton, so let's share!

This week in Gay in the UK the lads report on how Britain coped with their big snowstorm (they didn't!), gay history month, Christian Bale, Stephen Fry and Amy Winehouse!

Milk's Dustin Lance Black Wins WGA Prize!

Lanceblackwga2

Big props to Milk scribe Dustin Lance Black who nabbed the esteemed Writer's Guild of America award for Best Original Screenplay this weekend!

Black was greeted with standing o's by the crowd and had this to say: "We need to dream bigger than Proposition 8... I’m a child of Harvey Milk, and I’m a child of the movies. Those two things can inspire a guy to dream big."

Bravo!

J-Hud, Adele Score at Grammys!

JHud&Whitney
J-Hud & Auntie Whitney bring some Grammy sizzle.

Lots of fuss over Jennifer Hudson's heart-stopping performance at the Grammy Awards last night. The girl's been through it! And she took home a trophy for Best R&B Album. Big new Brit Adele snagged the Best New Artist prize, besting the Jonas Brothers who hit the stage with Stevie Wonder. (Why not?)

The Men of "He's Just Not That Into You" Gay It Up

I'm stretching the truth a little with that headline, but not much. Watch the viral video that the Kevin Connolly, Justin Long & Bradley Cooper star in to promote He's Just Not That Into You, opening today. It's meant to ease straight guys' fears about seeing a chick flick, but the result is kinda gay. And actually, sweet!

The moment that starts at about 2:45 is my fave and it's kinda hot. Or maybe that's just my lively imagination picturing a Bradley Cooper/Justin Long hookup. Anyway... Watch it. I'm just that into it. (sorry)

Thanks, AfterElton!

Yentl Comes to DVD! Lesbians Rejoice?

YentlWoods
Wears pants. Likes to read. Outdoorsy. Crushing on someone named Mandy. Oh, I get it...

Who knew Barbra Streisand was a lesbian icon as well as a gay icon? Now you do. Which is why the folks at AfterEllen are kvelling that Yentl's finally coming to DVD in a big "director's edition" with lots of extra Babs commentary & footage.

Mazel!

Milk Screenwriter Poses for Gus Van Sant, Vogue Hommes International

Lanceblackshirtless

Director Gus Van Sant has confirmed what we knew already, that Milk's screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (he's Oscar-nominated) is wayyyy cute. Van Sant has put together a sweet pictorial of the talented scribe for the fashion-y Vogue Hommes International, that includes some nice shirtless pics, and just some great intimate, scrapbooky shots, which are mixed in with some archival Harvey Milk papers and photos, and notes about how the film came to be made, too.

I'm not sure what Black's Oscar odds are, but he's bound to win nicest-lookin' screenwriter. And given what we know of Harvey Milk's affinity for dreamy guys, I'm thinking he'd be pleased with the pics, too.

Thanks to AfterElton & Defamer for the scoop. Check more pics after the jump!

Drew's Gay Trio & More at the "He's Just Not That Into You" Premiere

Hesjustnotthatintoyou
Wilson Cruz, Drew Barrymore, Leo Nam and Rod Keller in He's Just Not That Into You

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

This Friday anti-romantic comedy He's Not Just That Into You opens, and it's bringing a gaggle of gay BFFs with it.

In one of the film's threads, Drew Barrymore plays Mary, an ad buyer for The Baltimore Blade, a gay paper, and naturally her office is stuffed with gay guys. Three in particular seem to be her support network: Bruce (Rod Keller), Joshua (Leo Nam) and Nathan (out actor Wilson Cruz).

The gay-playing power trio were out in force at the movie's premiere, alongside lots of our other faves.

Sean Penn Wins SAG Award for Best Actor in Milk!

Sean Penn accepting his SAG Award.

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Last night the acting community awarded its best and brightest for their work in 2008, and Sean Penn was singled out for one of the biggest awards of the night for playing Harvey Milk in Gus Van Sant's biopic. His acceptance speech was a plea for equal rights, and his final thanks were to "the counsel of Cleve Jones and the great Harvey Milk". But first, he gave the crowd a healthy dose of humor:

"Something happened to me during the making of this movie. I noticed it tonight that the statues have rather healthy packages. As actors we don't play gay, straight ...we play human beings. (I'm) So appreciative of this acknowledgment. This is a story of equal rights for all human beings. Thanks Gus San Sant, Lance Black, the counsel of Cleve Jones and the great Harvey Milk."

The men of Milk got plenty of screen time at the awards (including when Josh Brolin goosed James Franco onstage while they and Emile Hirsch were introducing their film), but it wasn't the only instance of gay visibility at the SAG party, which had "Diversity" stamped all over it. Which is nice.

Here's my top ten list of gay moments from the event!

"Obama Bingo!" Plus: AfterElton on Rachel Maddow!

600x600_bingoobamaafterelto
Grab a penny (It's got Lincoln on it! Oh, the significance!) and play along!

The fellows over at AfterElton are really turning it out this Inauguration Weekend. First, Brian Juergens unveiled the genius of "Obama Bingo" this morning. Print out the card and play along as you watch all the historical shenanigans on TV today.

Yes, today is an amazingly thrilling landmark occasion. But it also means TV folks will be talking nonstop live today, and undoubtedly it's gonna get wonky. Grab a bingo card and play along. More details on AfterElton.com.

Also, AfterElton's coverage of the whole "HBO didn't show gay bishop Gene Robinsons speech" fuss got a big shout-out last night on Rachel Maddow, from the Mad-woman herself. Hurrah! Nice work.

You can watch the clip below.

Morning Buzz Bits: It's Inauguration Day!

CapitolDawn

Good morning! Ready for a big day?

All day today, 365Gay’s Jennifer Vanasco has constant Twitter updates from the scene in D.C. Are you among the throngs packing our nation's capital?

As you may know, HBO didn’t show openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson’s prayer which kicked off Sunday’s “We Are One” concert and inaugural kickoff ceremony. But AfterElton was on it! And it will be included in the rebroadcast.

Josh Groban gave a shout out to his backup singers, the DC Gay Men’s Chorus, for Sunday’s inauguration concert. He loves the gays!

In Dupont Circle in D.C., you can throw a shoe at Bush (a big effigy, anyway). But keep your boots on. It’s cold!

MTV News has a timeline of Obama’s inauguration day. Where will you be when Obama gets sworn in?

The NY Times has a flashy map guiding you through the Inaugural Parade route and all the D.C. happenings.

And if you need to know what Michelle Obama is wearing and why, the Mrs. O fashion blog can tell you.

And Bishop Gene Robinson will be on The Daily Show tonight. Last night Jon Stewart recapped Obama’s weekend, including his 7-hour “express” train ride to D.C.

Enjoy some Daily Show video. (Sorry Philly!) More to come later!

"The Daily Show" Gives Us Anderson Cooper AND Puppies!

-- Snicks from AfterElton.com

Hot on the heels of surviving New Year's Eve with Kathy Griffin, CNN newsman Anderson Cooper showed up on The Daily Show last night to moderate the first (and last) "Road to the Doghouse - Puppedential Debate".

The Obama daughters are still looking for the perfect pup, and it's up to Anderson to weed out the mutts. Will he sniff out a winner? The shocking conclusion is guaranteed to leave you wagging your tail!

Bromance: Gayest Show Ever?

420x540_brodyjenner
Hmmmm... What other intimate tests does Brody have in mind for his "Bromance" boys?

I'm not sure if Brody Jenner is really as cool with gay folks as he appears to be, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, his new dopey MTV reality show Bromance, which debuted last Monday, does feature an elimination round in a hot tub, cooking up a bubbling mix of cute(ish)straight boys soaking in Jenner soup.

As AfterElton blogged about hilariously today, last week saw solitary gay contestant Michael getting some good airtime, then as he realized that Brody's world isn't as faboo as The Hills, he bolted. Can you blame him?

Chances are if you've watched, you've picked out a bohunk you're rooting for... Tune in tonight for more man-on-man Broman-tic idiocy. And below, you can watch the clip of Michael's departure, all handled suprisingly eloquently, below.

Ellen Page to Star in Lesbian Drama

122208ellenpage1

-- Dorothy Snarker from AfterEllen.com

On screen, Ellen Page has played a pregnant teen, an X-Man and a dark metaphorical cousin to Chris Hansen. And now she will play one of us. The 21-year-old actress has been attached to the feature film adaptation of Freeheld, the true story of a terminally-ill lesbian's struggle to pass her pension benefits to her partner.

Good As You reported on Friday that Cynthia Wade, the director of the Oscar-winning short documentary, was turning her film into a full-length feature with Ellen attached. Freeheld is based on the story of Laurel Hester, who became terminally ill and could not secure any rights for her partner, Stacie Andree upon her death.

Laurel Hester (left) and partner Stacie Andree
122208ellenpage2

Laurel, a 25-year veteran of the police force, and Stacie were registered domestic partners. But because they were not and could not be legally married her county freeholders (like a county supervisor, but in Jersey) denied Laurel's request. So she fought them, while dying, for her rights. On Jan. 25, 2006, after extensive public outcry and Laurel's own hospital-bed appeals, the freeholders reversed their decision and granted Stacie full benefits. Laurel died 25 days later.

"Ugly Betty" returns with Zac Posen, Bernadette Peters and Nikki Blonsky

Zac, posin'...

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Looks like local favorite Ugly Betty is hitting the ground running for its first episode of 2009 when it welcomes out designer Zac Posen and gay-faves Bernadette Peters and Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky as guests.

The January 8th episode picks up with Betty and Marc (Michael Urie) starting the Y.E.T.I. program (how excited am I that Marc has been pulled into this plotline?) and coming head-to-head with Betty's idol, editor Jodi Papadakis (Peters), and an annoying assistant at ELLE (Blonsky).

Mamma Mia! Is the Biggest UK Film Ever. Want Some Deleted Scenes?

450_mammamiadominiccoope
Dominic Cooper in "Mamma Mia!" The more skin the better...

It does seem kind of insane that Mamma Mia!, the loopy Meryl Streep-does-ABBA musical, has become the highest-grossing film ever in the U.K. But the Brits love their ABBA and their cheesey schmaltz. And frankly, I'm just a little embarrassed that I've not seen the film.

I know gays who love it. My mom loved it. My teen nephews loved it. (Really!) So I need to catch up. Luckily it's out now on DVD with special sing-along tracks included.

And the film's publicist sent along this special clip which was deleted (or part of it, at least) from the film. Since it features a boatload of strapping shirtless guys emerging from the ocean, he thought I might like it. Hmmm... It's a bit wonky. But I do like Dominic Cooper's eagerness to "get drunk and drop his trousers!" That I can fully get behind.

Not Bad, Just Drawn That Way: Top 10 Film Femme Fatales

Thespiritfemmes
Eva Mendes, Jaime King and Scarlett Johansson vamp it up in The Spirit

-- Snicks from AfterElton.com

The highly stylized film adaption of the comic book The Spirit is coming out soon (Christmas Day, to be exact), and in addition to the hotness of Gabriel Macht as the title hero, we also get three sexy, badass dames to enjoy.

Scarlett Johansson plays Silken Floss (love that name!), accomplice to The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson); Eva Mendes is Sand Saref, whose cold heart may be melted by former flame The Spirit; and Jaime King is Lorelei Rox, who lures men to their deaths with her siren song.

Why do tough, dangerous broads prove so irresistible to so many gay men? While we ponder that question, let's take a look at some of our other favorite film femme fatales!

(Pssst! Logo's got a sweepstakes running for The Spirit where you can win over 200 killer movies on DVD. Have a look if you're feeling lucky!)

Our top ten, after the break...

Give Neil Patrick Harris His Golden Globe or the Clarinet Player Gets It

Nphgun1

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Okay okay, he's not actually going to shoot anyone. But as a part of his presenting gig at last night's Spike Video Game Awards the recently-nominated out actor tapped his inner Jack Bauer while handing out the award for Best Indie Game.

Not sure what the joke was around the gun (but I'm sure there was one); to be honest I was more distracted by the other metal on NPH's hand ... while boyfriend David Burtka wasn't on the red carpet with NPH, he was there in spirit.

The testosterone-targeted event was hosted by Jack Black and featured appearances by Kiefer Sutherland, Eliza Dushku, Jerry Stiller, Megan Fox, Weezer, 50 Cent and more. Oh, and gay metal god Rob Halford of Judas Priest was also on the red carpet; check him (and more NPH pics) doing what he does best, after the jump!

Golden Globe Noms Ain't Got Much "Milk"; Neil Patrick Harris Scores

Neilphnomnomnom

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

This morning the nominations were announced for the Golden Globe Awards, and there were a host of nominations of gay interest. But disappointingly, Milk was all but shut out of the nominations, failing to earn nominations in any category except Best Actor.

Okay, that just sucks.

On the bright side, out actor Neil Patrick Harris earned a nomination for How I Met Your Mother, and several gay-inclusive television shows got nods, including Alan Ball's True Blood, The Office, Ugly Betty, Weeds, Mad Men, The Office, and Bernard & Doris. A list of the noms of interest, after the jump.

Marc Shaiman, Jack Black and John C. Reilly talk "Prop 8: The Musical" with Keith Olbermann

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

On Friday Keith Olbermann invited three of the men behind the hilarious Prop 8: The Musical onto the Countdown: out writer Marc Shaiman and straight actors Jack Black and John C. Reilly. The gents speak about how the video came to be (thanks to Will Ferrell's FunnyorDie website), why they motivated to join the project, the box-office potential of Gay: The Musical and more.

I love when Shaiman notes that hating gay people is questioning God's taste, considering we were all made in his image. But I was particularly impressed by Reilly, whose skill at playing milquetoasts has probably led me to think he's a bit of a doof but who speaks forcefully and with eloquence about why Prop 8 upsets him.

Bryan Fuller Set to Return to Heroes ... But Is It Too Late?

-- snicks from AfterElton.com

Out writer/producer Bryan Fuller isn't letting the imminent demise of Pushing Daisies slow him down, as he's close to inking a deal with Universal Media Studios. The two-year deal will allow him to develop his own series, while also bringing him back to help resuscitate the carcass of NBC's Heroes:

Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Margaret Cho in Prop 8: The Musical

Courtesy of FunnyOrDie, gay songsmith Marc Shaiman (South Park, Hairspray) and out director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) have created a musical about Proposition 8, Jesus, and how gay marriage could save the country. Seriously. Watch closely and you might notice Maya Rudolph, Andy Richter, Sarah Chalke, Jenifer Lewis, Kathy Najimy, Allison Janney, and more in the number. These people are awesome.

The Transporter: Ex-Gay?

One of the most appealing elements of the Transporter series of films — besides the frequent shirtlessness of star Jason Statham — has been the idea (fomented by one of the creators of the first two movies) that the lead character is gay.

Transporter 3, alas, suggests otherwise. Find out more after the jump!

Three New Little Ashes Clips

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Little Ashes, or as I like to call it, "Brideshead Redecorated", will soon be bringing the bromance between Salvador Dali and Federico García Lorca (with a little Luis Buñuel thrown in for added flavor) to the screen. There are a few clips out that bank enough longing stares to fill an entire Merchant Ivory marathon.

After the break you can check out two more clips: in the first, Lorca gets his first look at Dali, who arrives at school realizing that he came dressed for the Benny and Joon theme party about 60 years early. In the second, the two get arty in a cottage. Please to enjoy.

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Among other items, hosts Tim & Ryan talk about recent developments in the criminal trial of Boy George (he allegedly chained a male prostitute to the wall of his London apartment), protests over Boyzone's new supposedly propaganda-filled video "Better.", the details of Madonna and Guy Ritchie's divorce settlement, and much more!

Check it out after the break!

Milk Cracks The Top Ten in Only 36 Theaters

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

As you may have heard, Gus Van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic opened over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in limited release. But here's what you may not have heard: despite playing in only 36 theaters, Milk raked in almost $2 million, making it the #10 movie of the weekend and giving it a whopping $38,361 per-screen average (compared to the $9,571 per-screen average of Four Christmases, the #1 movie of the weekend).

Neil Patrick Harris Talks Magic, Gesticulates Wildly on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Neil Patrick Harris dropped by Craig Ferguson's talk show before the holiday to discuss his gig hosting the American Magic Awards, the ladykilling ways of gay magician Hans Klok and his general love for all things prestidigitative (prestidigitational?). Plus, his parents were in the audience. Awww!

Check it out after the break...

Bravo Says "Brava" to More Kathy Griffin!

-- snicks from AfterElton.com

Great news for fans of gay fave Kathy Griffin! After months of speculation whether she would return to Bravo for another season of her two-time Emmy award-winning reality show My Life On The D-List, we get word that she's just inked a one-year deal with the cable channel.

The deal includes a fifth season renewal of D-List, hosting duties once again for the insanely gay Bravo A-List Awards, and two hourlong standup specials to air in 2009.

Above you can see Kathy rocking the red carpet at this year's GLAAD awards, and if you're like me, you will be anxiously awaiting the fifth season of D-List until it arrives next spring.

Connor Paolo Turns Down "Regular" Status Offer on Gossip Girl?

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Gossip gay Michael Ausiello is reporting that actor Connor Paolo, who plays gay teen Eric on Gossip Girl, has been offered "regular" character status by the show and has refused the contract offer.

It might amount to nothing more than an actor not wanting to be hemmed in by a role that hasn't been giving him too terribly much to do, but of course the Ghost of Gay Teens Past rears its ugly head whenever this kind of thing happens.

I for one hope that Eric isn't going anywhere regardless and that there are no Dekkerian underpinnings to the news.

The New X-Men Series Has Two Gay Characters ... Will It Amount to Anything?

-- Lyle Masaki from AfterElton.com

For anyone who has been reading superhero comics, complaining about the abundance of comics tied to the X-Men franchise is a familair pastime. However, for gay readers, there just may be reason to pay attention to one new series, Young X-Men.

Young X-Men is the latest X-book to focus on younger mutants and one of the heroes featured in Young X-Men is Anole, a gay character whose outing was nixed in 2003 but was eventually outed in 2006. Anole isn't the only gay mutant in Young X-Men, however.

Find out about the new gay after the break!

Sounds Like a Hit! Vlog: Express Yourself (But Don't Say "Nugget")

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

This week, Brian and Kyle "express themselves" about Madonna's latest concert, the Sticky and Sweet tour, and they really get into it.  From Paula Abdul and MC Skat Cat to Natalie Cole's "ghost duet" with her late father, these two plow through a mountain of pop culture on their way to their final verdict on the show.   Can Madge earn five cone bras out of five from our guys?  And an added bonus: Brian's list of words that make him uncomfortable!

Also mentioned this week: Aretha Franklin, whose voice was declared a natural resource in the state of Michigan.

Enjoy it all after the break!

Saturday Night Live Riffs on Gay Marriage, Prison Rape, Flamboyant Backup Dancers And More

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

As though having Paul Rudd and Beyonce on as guests weren't enough, SNL pulled out all the gay-adjacent stops this weekend with an episode that referenced gay people, gay sex or gay cartoon lions in some way or another in nearly every segment of the show.

Things started off innocently enough with a skit about a family who kisses one another a lot, including father/son and brother/brother, which ended up with Fred Armisen trying to swallow Andy Samberg's face. Fair enough, been done before. But as the night wore on the skits got weirder ... for more (and for more video), click on through the jump.

The Milk Cast on Gay Rights And Harvey's Legacy

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Two great videos of the talented folks behind Milk speaking about the film, gay rights and Harvey Milk's legacy have surfaced that deserve a look.

First (above) there's a series of MTV interviews with the movie's young cast speaking at length about the film's parallels with the current battle against Proposition 8.

And after the break, check out ET's footage of the men of Milk on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere, which features the stars and director speaking eloquently about the film's inspiration (Emile Hirsch says it best when he simply comments that Harvey Milk was "an American hero").

Jake Gyllenhaal's Five Pounds of Prince of Persia Muscle Haven't Gone to His Head

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Entertainment Tonight crashed the set of the upcoming action epic Prince of Persia, which of course stars honorary gay Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. The discussion of course soon turned to the remarkable body transformation that the Brokeback Mountain star made in preparation for the role, but Jake assures us that it's simply five pounds of muscle and that he can't wait to get fat once shooting is over.

That's cool with us, Jake. Bears are totally in!

Check out the clip after the break, but be warned, it may lead you to actually attempt sexual congress with your computer screen.
