Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace Burned Her Birth Certificate On A North Carolina Stage

"Goodbye, gender!"

Many performers have recently decided to cancel their shows in North Carolina as a form of protest against the state’s horrible new anti-LGBT law, while others have chosen to still perform, but to donate the proceeds to LGBT charities.

Against Me! is one of those acts choosing to keep the show going, but frontwoman Laura Jane Grace decided to take things a step further to show her disapproval of HB2.

The singer took a lighter to her birth certificate while on stage in North Carolina over the weekend and shouted, “Goodbye, gender!” as she watched it burst into flames.

“I’m going to create an event around the show as a form of protest to say that despite whatever stupid laws they enact, trans people are not going to be scared,” Grace said to Buzzfeed in April. “They are not going to go away.”
