Alaska Firemen Heat Up New Shirtless Charity Calendar

Things are heating up in Alaska, where a dozen members of the Anchorage Firefighters Department have teamed up—and stripped down—for a 2015 benefit Calendar of Heroes.

AFD dispatcher Julie Rychetnik came up with the idea for the calendar, which benefits the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Anchorage, the Alaska Police and Fire Chaplains Ministries and other nonprofits.

More than 800 calendars have been sold since they went on sale Tuesday, raising more than $13,000.

Rychetnik has secured enough donations from local businesses to print at least 2,500 calendars for a total of $40,000 in donations, though she said there is the potential to print more. She hopes to have a signing event for the calendar in January.

Frefighter Zach Stubbs, a.k.a. Mr. March said there have been other charity calendars featuring Anchorage's Bravest, but none this "risque." Stubbs, a captain, says he’s heard nothing but positive feedback.

“I work with a good bunch of fit guys, but I was definitely nervous once I really thought about what I signed on for,” jokes Stubbs, 34. “But it was also good motivation to get in the gym and get in shape as quickly as possible.”
