"Snatch Game" History Lesson: Who Were Paul Lynde And Crystal LaBeija?

"This is the most queens I've been surrounded by since Charles Nelson Reilly's pool party!"

One of the reasons "Snatch Game" is always a fan favorite episode every season is because part of the fun is finding out which celebrities the queens have chosen to impersonate.

Some of the stars, like Cher and Judge Judy, are known to today's audiences—but there is usually a celebrity or two that the children might not know.

For this All Stars installment of "Snatch Game," there were known public figures like Trixie Mattel's RuPaul (duh) and Bebe's Grace Jones. But if you were scratching your head when BenDeLaCreme said she would be impersonating Paul Lynde, you are not alone.

If you grew up watching Bewitched reruns then you already know Lynde as Uncle Arthur. He was also one of the stars in the film adaptation of Bye Bye Birdie and voiced Templeton the rat in Charlotte's Web.

Though Lynde's lasting legacy decades later is probably his center square residency on Hollywood Squares, where for years he delivered zingers filled with sexual innuendos and thinly-veiled references to his homosexuality.

Lynde died of a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 55, but if you need a crash course in Lynde's Hollywood Squares history, check out this two-hour supercut of some of his best lines from the game show:

Another star on the panel tonight that younger viewers might not know was Aja's Crystal LaBeija.

On Season 9, Aja impersonated Alyssa Edwards for "Snatch Game," but she almost went with the legendary ballroom queen who was featured in the classic 1967 drag documentary, The Queen. For All Stars, Aja finally decided to take on the mother of the House of LeBeija—who was known for her fierce looks and biting tongue.

Crystal was a pioneer in the drag world and with the help of Lottie LaBeija, she organized the ball at Up the Downstairs Case in lower Harlem, one of the first of its kind. Decades later she has left her mark on the drag scene, still influencing younger queens, evident by Aja's uncanny impersonation of her on "Snatch Game."

Do you think the queens did their celebrities justice?

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 3 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on VH1.
