Gianni Versace’s Boyfriend: “Not A Trace Of Reality” To “American Crime Story”

“Maybe it’s the director’s poetic license, but that is not how I reacted.”

It sounds like in The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Ryan Murphy is taking some artistic liberties with The Assassination of Gianni Versace, the next installment of American Crime Story.

Antonio D’Amico, Versace’s boyfriend of 15 years and who was at Versace’s mansion when he was shot, says that Ricky Martin’s upcoming portrayal of him in the miniseries is a fabrication.

“There has been so much written and said about the murder, and thousands of suppositions, but not a trace of reality,” D’Amico told the Observer.

“The picture of Ricky Martin holding the body in his arms is ridiculous,” he added. “Maybe it’s the director’s poetic license, but that is not how I reacted.”

D’Amico recalls that he was in Versace’s mansion when he heard the gunshots. “I felt as if my blood had turned to ice,” he said. D’Amico went out to investigate with their butler.

“The house had stained glass windows so we couldn’t see what had happened from inside, so we had to open the gate. I saw Gianni lying on the steps, with blood around him. At that point, everything went dark. I was pulled away, I didn’t see any more.”

?¡Oh no! ¡Gianni! ? . . #americancrimestory #gianniversace #versace #edgarramirez #rickymartin #tv #series #noticias #entretenimiento #estereopop

After Versace’s death, D’Amico fell into a depression and fought with Versace’s sister, Donatella, over what was left to him in the fashion designer’s will. He fell in love again in 2005 and now lives with his partner in the Italian countryside. He recently designed and launched a collection of sportswear for golfers.

D’Amico has no plans to watch American Crime Story when it airs next year on FX, but he would be happy if Martin wanted to get in contact with him to get details about his relationship with Versace.

“It’s getting to know the small things about a relationship … for example, Gianni was so ordered and focused at work but in his private life everything was disorganised. He’d leave the bathroom in a mess. At a certain point I said ‘enough’! And when it came to cooking, he didn’t even know how to [boil] an egg.”

American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace will air in 2018 on FX.
