First Teaser Trailer Released For “American Crime Story: Versace”

When doves fly.

Ryan Murphy has already had a busy year with Feud: Bette and Joan racking up a slew of Emmy nominations and the recent premiere of American Horror Story: Cult. Now he is already gearing up for a packed 2018 with the first teaser from the next installment in his American Crime Story series, The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

The new preview is short, but should give viewers a taste of what to expect from the limited series. The clip focuses on the gates of Versace’s mansion and as gunshots are heard, doves fly into the sky and the scene turns blood red.

The anthology series stars Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, Darren Criss as Versace’s killer, Andrew Cunanan, and Ricky Martin as Versace’s partner, Antonio D’Amico.

The real D’Amico has spoken out about the problems he has with Martin’s portrayal of him in The Assassination of Versace:

“There has been so much written and said about the murder, and thousands of suppositions, but not a trace of reality,” D’Amico told the Observer.

“The picture of Ricky Martin holding the body in his arms is ridiculous,” he added. “Maybe it’s the director’s poetic license, but that is not how I reacted.”

D’Amico recalls that he was in Versace’s mansion when he heard the gunshots. “I felt as if my blood had turned to ice,” he said. D’Amico went out to investigate with their butler.

“The house had stained glass windows so we couldn’t see what had happened from inside, so we had to open the gate. I saw Gianni lying on the steps, with blood around him. At that point, everything went dark. I was pulled away, I didn’t see any more.”

D’Amico has no plans to watch American Crime Story when it airs next year on FX, but he would be happy if Martin wanted to get in contact with him to get details about his relationship with Versace.
