We’re getting used to seeing gay people in commercials on TV and the Web. Gorgeous, genetically blessed gay people who don’t look or act like anyone we’ve ever met.
That’s why American Express’ new ad for its Premier Rewards card is so refreshing. The gay couple in it, who discuss making their long-distance Seattle-Long Island relationship work—do look like us, and like a lot of the friends and colleagues we see every day.
We got nothing against hot people selling products—that’s basically what advertising was built on—but its also nice to see ourselves reflected in the media, too.
