Latina Lesbian Elders On The Lam In "Amigas With Benefits"

This endearing queer short is screening as part of PBS's Online Film Festival.

A new short features two elderly lesbians having a very Thelma and Louise moment: Amigas With Benefits, available as part of the PBS Online Film Festival, centers on Lupita (Yuny Parada) and Ramona (Sandra Matrecitos), who meet and fall in love at their senior home.

They're in the middle of their wedding, in fact, when Lupita's daughter, Virginia, storms in to object.

Lupita is suffering from dementia and Virginia is convinced Ramona coerced her mother into being a "lesbiana." She refuses to sign the papers allowing Lupita to get hitched and insists on moving her mother out of the home for good.

But, we learn, Lupita has had many "amigas" in her lifetime, even though she never came out to her children.

Out filmmaker Adelina Anthony wrote and directed Amigas With Benefits, which recently screened at Outfest. Vote for the film on the PBS Online Film Festival website.
