It might come as a surprise, as it did to us, that no NFL team has made an official video for the “It Gets Better” campaign until this week, but it’s true. The first out of the gate is this one by the San Francisco 49ers, in which four players (Donte Whitner, Ahmad Brooks, Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean Francois) speak for the entire team in supporting LGBT youth.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the video was the result of the efforts of fan Sean Chapin, who got over 16,000 signatures on Change.org to get the 49ers to participate (Chapin was also responsible for the Giants being the first MLB team to make an IGB video, after which many other MLB teams followed suit.) Hopefully, this will open the floodgates for more NHL teams to join the 49ers in supporting this unquestionably worthy cause.
