Anderson Cooper Confronts Hillary Clinton About Gay Marriage View At #DemDebate

"Even some Democrats believe you change your positions based on political expediency."

Last night's Democratic debate was certainly more civil than the Republican three-ring circus, but that doesn't mean there weren't some tense moments.

Moderator Anderson Cooper didn't hold back from posing pointed questions—including asking Hillary Clinton why she's flip-flopped/evolved on same-sex marriage.

"Plenty of politicians evolve on issues, but even some Democrats believe you change your positions based on political expediency," asked AC.

"You were against same-sex marriage. Now you’re for it. You defended President Obama’s immigration policies. Now you say they’re too harsh. You supported his trade deal dozen of times... Now, suddenly, last week, you’re against it. Will you say anything to get elected?"

Clinton insisted she's been "consistent" in her values throughout her life. "I’ve always fought for the same values and principles. Like most human beings, including those who run for office, we do absorb new information."

The silver fox kept at it—asking if she changes her political views based on who she's talking to.

"Like most people I know, I have a range of views, but they are rooted in my values and experience," the former Secretary of State replied.

Cooper scored high marks for his performance at last night's debate, where he also asked Bernie Sanders about his support from the NRA, and Martin O'Mally about his time as mayor of Baltimore, which has been plagued by racial turmoil.

"[Anderson Cooper] asserted himself as the strongest figure of the presentation, candidates included," Mediaite's Joe Concha wrote. "In the end, Cooper showed why he’s one of the top journalists in the game: He was impeccably prepared, wasn’t hesitant to ask follow-up questions when warranted and didn’t offer up one question—not one—that could be considered frivolous or fluffy."
