Step aside, Mr. President — Angelica Ross has points to make about the state of our LGBTQ union.

The actress, entrepreneur, and proud Black trans woman has teamed up with Logo to deliver our fifth-annual LGBTQ State of the Union, a rousing address covering the state of LGBTQ equality in the United States. Given the unprecedented numbers of anti-transgender legislation and violence over the past year, the 2022 speech speaks directly to America's trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming community. It premiered this Tuesday (March 1), the same day as President Joe Biden's joint address to Congress and the nation.

"It’s time we have an honest and intersectional conversation centering the most vulnerable among us," a regal-looking Ross proclaims. "And if anyone from the Biden-Harris administration is tuning in — I’m always open to discussing any of this further. Drop me a line, honey. You have my number.”

Ross has never been afraid to "keep it all the way 100," and her LGBTQ State of the Union speech is no exception. The Pose alum seamlessly tackles everything from trans representation in media to the scourge of hate-motivated violence against trans Americans, particularly Black trans women. Her stirring address calls upon all of us to make our voices heard and combat transphobia "in ways big and small," especially if we occupy positions of privilege.

Ross (pictured above) also highlights the uptick in legislative attacks on trans youth across the country. Case in point? Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's recent call for residents to report supportive parents of trans kids for "child abuse," which flies in the face of guidances from every major medical association in the country.

“Adult lawmakers are leveraging the power bestowed upon them by American voters to target children," she continues. "Children! Let that sink in. Young people who would be impacted by these bills aren’t even old enough to vote yet. If you’re not appalled, you’re not paying attention. ... Trans children and teens need compassion and structural support; instead, they are watching with bated breath as elected officials around the country work to erode their basic rights."

This is not Ross's first time spilling some piping-hot political tea. In 2020, she hosted a Presidential Candidate Forum on LGBTQ Issues, which included then-candidate Biden among a handful of other White House hopefuls. It is, however, her first time delivering Logo's LGBTQ State of the Union, a role her Pose co-star Billy Porter has occupied for the past three years.
