Today is Ann Curry’s last day on Today, and while her replacement has yet to be announced, the Internet is overflowing with rumors about who will be taking over for the veteran anchor. So, to help NBC make an educated decision, let’s look at the pros and cons of the four women rumored to be heading up the list for the position.
PROS: Savannah has basically been the third anchor on the show for the past year and certainly has the right disposition for the job. Even better, there seems to be a will they, won’t they relationship between her and Matt Lauer that we really, really enjoy. This is also who most outlets are reporting has already received the post.
CONS: As an attorney and NBC’s former White House correspondent, the job may be a bit too lowbrow for Savannah.
PROS: The former anchor has only been gone for a year after five years on the couch, so bringing her back would not be a huge shift for viewers. Even better, her and Lauer already have proven chemistry.
CONS: Some are saying she was offered her old job back and flat out rejected it.
PROS: Natalie was said to be in the running when Meredith left the show, but was passed over for Ann. She would be the logical choice as the most tenured member of the show and her and Lauer definitely have chemistry.
CONS: About that chemistry, it seems that Lauer and Natalie had an affair in 2006 and Lauer’s wife has said she will leave him if Natalie gets the anchor position. DRAMA! Even worse, given how poorly Ann’s shift from the news desk to the couch went, Today may want to go in a different direction this time.
PROS: She is said to test better with audiences than all the other women on the short list, and has managed to turn the fourth hour of the program into one of the most engrossing and hysterical things on TV.
CONS: If Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda are ever separated, we will personally picket NBC every day until justice is restored.
