Anne Hathaway To Star In "Cabaret" On Broadway
As part of her ongoing quest to force America to accept her as a musical-theater diva, Les Miserables Oscar winner Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in a new Broadway production of Cabaret.
Starting in September, Hathaway will play Sally Bowles, the brash chanteuse who dallies with young American writer Cliff Bradshaw as the Nazis rise to power in pre-WWII Berlin. The 30-year-old actress teased her plan to take on the iconic role last October, when she performed songs from Cabaret at Joe's Pub. Apparently she even donned a bowtie and satin shorts to complete the look
Joining Hathaway in the Kander and Ebb musical is Alan Cumming, currently on the Great White Way in Macbeth. Cumming will play the emcee, a role that earned him a Tony in the show's 1998 Broadway production.
Is Hathaway vying for EGOT status? We're dying to know Liza's take on the casting.
UPDATE:
“There is no commitment whatsoever for her to do Cabaret. There are no discussions going on about this project for Anne," Hathaway's publicist Stephen Huvane wrote in an email to the New York Times.
