Academy Award-nominee Annette Bening has opened up about her trans son, saying she's "super proud of him."

The 20th Century Women star briefly discussed her 25-year-old son Stephen Ira in a recent interview with The Observer.

“I’m super proud of him,” the famously private actress said. “I leave it to him to say what he wants about his life. I don’t think it’s fair for me to speak for any of my kids, quite frankly. Not that I wouldn’t like to!”

Bening's statement echoed one made by her husband Warren Beatty to Vanity Fair this past October, when he called Ira "a revolutionary, a genius and my hero.”

A writer and social commentator, Ira has been a fierce and vocal advocate for the trans community since he first came out at the age of 14.

Currently, he is the co-founder and co-editor of Vetch: A Magazine of Trans Poetry and Poetics.
