Fans Unfurl 160-Foot-Long Anti-Gay Banner At Soccer Match In Cologne

The German Football Association is investigating the incident.

German football club Hertha Berlin has criticized fans for displaying a large anti-LGBT banner during a recent match against Cologne.

Supporters waved the 160-foot-long banner as Hertha emerged victorious against FC Köln Saturday. It read: “WH96: Rather a mother than two fathers!”

The message was apparently directed at a specific group of Cologne fans, known as Die Wilde Horde 1996 (WH96). Members of WH96 have reportedly been involved in an ongoing spat with their Berlin counterparts.

Hertha BSC took to Twitter to condemn the banner: “Leave out the stupidity! Hertha Berlin has always distanced itself from every form of discrimination.”

Paul Keuter, a Hertha board member, added, "This stupid discrimination has definitely nothing to do with Hertha Berlin.”

The German Football Association is currently looking into the matter.
