Hundreds of members of Kaylys, an anti-gay group in the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan, barricaded the doors at a local nightclub and shut down a scheduled performance by Kazaky, the Ukrainian boy band famous for performing vampish choreography in stilettos and leather harnesses.

According to concert organizer Danil Mishin, the police "shrugged their shoulders and did nothing" about the incident. As a result Mishkin had to cancel the show to avoid violence and suffered heavy losses—paying $20,000 in forfeits to the band.

Virulent homophobia has been in the air in Kyrgyzstan lately—just last week, voters passed an "gay-propaganda ban" law similar to the one in effect Russia.

While none of the members of Kazaky identify as gay (sorry, fellas) they have a solid queer following, and have even performed with Madonna.

In an interview with NewNowNext in 2013 they expressed appreciation for their gay fans:

We are happy that we are loved by all, independent of sexual orientation. Of course we are also happy that the gay and lesbian community is an active and important part of our fan base. We often hear words of appreciation for our work, for that our work helps people feel free and equal. This is the best compliment. Freedom and equality... is the purpose of our creativity.
