Archie Comics Debuts Special Cover For LGBT Comic Con

The third annual Flame Con returns to Brooklyn next month.

Since his debut in 2010, Archie Comics’ first openly gay character, Kevin Keller has become one of the comic company’s most popular characters, even starring in his own series, Life With Kevin.

For the new comic, Your Pal Archie, the comic book company will release a variant cover with Kevin for the debut issue at this year's Flame Con convention, the world's largest LGBT comic con.

The special cover features members of the Archie gang like Betty, Veronica and Kevin as their superhero alter-egos flying above New York alongside Flame Con's mascot, Flamie.

“I was thrilled to do a Your Pal Archie #1 variant cover for this years Flame Con, featuring Kevin Keller, Flamie and the Archie gang celebrating diversity and having fun!” said artist and Kevin Keller creator, Dan Parent.

The third annual Flame Con returns to Brooklyn on August 19 and 20 with even more gay geek programming and an expanded list of celebrities and special guest artists. The special cover will be available to the first 1,000 attendees visiting Flame Con on Sunday, the show's queer youth day where everyone under the age of 20 receives free admission.

The variant cover also reveals that Kevin Keller's solo digital series, Life With Kevin, will be released as a collected edition in January 2018.

This is only the latest news for Archie Comics' first out character. Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller on The CW's Riverdale, was made a series regular for the show's upcoming second season.

Visit Flame Con's website for more info on the convention.
