Are Lady Gaga Fans Writing Fake "Venom" Reviews to Support "A Star Is Born"?

Are little monsters living up to their name?

A Star Is Born and Venom are both coming to theaters this weekend. While Star has been receiving glowing reviews, online write-ups about Venom aren't so hot—and its fans are pointing the finger at Lady Gaga's little monsters.

Reactions to Tom Hardy's superhero flick based on the Marvel Universe character started to appear Tuesday on Twitter. Venom fans grew skeptical of the almost identical reviews and took to Twitter to alert the masses.

"Beware of fake #Venom movie reviews. There are people trying to promote Lady Gaga's #AStarIsBorn and are fabricating negative reviews. Look out for bots and only trust proper and regular reviewers," Twitter user Marvel Mania captioned a series of tweets with the same comment.

Another Twitter user posted the same screenshot with the caption: "Okay, something is up. The negativity around the #Venom movie is looking very artificial."

One of the users accused of being a bot, Juan Caniggia, a 20-year-old Lady Gaga fan from Argentina, told BuzzFeed News that they were just bored.

"It was a joke between two of my mutuals," he said. "We steal each other's tweets."

Another user, who identified themselves only as @LGMonster95, told BuzzFeed there had been a coordinated effort.

Venom fans aren't letting Gaga stans off without a fight of their own. Fans of the film have started their own social media sabotaging as well.

This isn't the first time Lady Gaga's fans have been investigated for making fake accounts to support the "Applause" singer.

In 2016 BuzzFeed found Gaga fans used fake accounts to ask radio stations to play her song "Perfect Illusion." And then they launched a harassment campaign against a BuzzFeed News reporter after they were exposed.
