Argentine President’s Drag Queen Son Wears Pride Flag to Inauguration

Estanislao Fernández makes his father "proud."

When you can't serve a full look, accessories are everything.

Estanislao Fernández, 24-year-old son of Argentina's new president, Alberto Fernández, attended his father's inauguration ceremony this week in Buenos Aires and posed for official photos wearing a rainbow-colored pocket square.

Estanislao, who is also a popular drag performer and cosplayer by the name of Dyhzy, later posted an Instagram story revealing that the pocket square was a folded LGBTQ Pride flag. He reportedly identifies as bisexual.

Fernàndez, a liberal Peronist who ousted conservative President Mauricio Macri, called Estanislao "one of the most creative persons in my life" in a radio interview. "My son is a rights activist in that community," he said. "I would worry if my son was a criminal, but he is a great man. In that world, which I don’t know much about, [he] seems to be respected and very recognized. I feel proud for my son."

Estanislao has publicly responded to mockery from Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of homophobic far-right Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

"Many people from Brazil began to follow me and I want to tell the LGBTTTIQQA+ community and allies of Brazil that we are together in this fight," Estanislao wrote on social media. "Remember that love always conquers hatred and among us, we must always take care of ourselves."

Last month Estanislao participated in the 28th annual Buenos Aires Pride celebration, locally known as Marcha de Orgullo, which was attended by an estimated 300,000 people.

LGBTQ rights in Argentina are among the world's most advanced. The South American country was the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage in 2010.
