Ariana Grande, Jessie J Cover "The Boy Is Mine," Sam Smith Doing Whitney Houston

Back in 1998, Brandy and Monica staked a spot for one-named R&B divas everywhere with their smash R&B duet “The Boy is Mine.” Now Ariana Grande and Jessie J aim to awe a new generation with a cover of the song, courtesy of its original producer, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins.

“Next year is my 20-year anniversary [in the industry," Jerkins told HitsDailyDouble, "and I’m doing a very special project, [with] some originals as well as reimagined hits. So for example, I’ll do the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ with Ariana and Jessie J.”

In case you're too young to remember, here's the original (with Mekhi Phifer as the guy they fight over).

Jerkins also revealed he's getting something cooking with crooner-of-the-moment Sam Smith—a version of Whitney Houston's "It’s Not Right It’s Okay."

"He told me [it] was the song that made him want to sing,” said the super-producer. “When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!'"

Earlier this summer, Smith offered a slow, soulful version of Whitney's breakout hit "How Will I Know" on SiriusXM.
