While we must admit we did not find news of more Arnold Schwarzenegger affairs that surprising, or interesting, on last night’s edition of 60 Minutes, we were shocked to learn that the former governor of California performed two same-sex marriage ceremonies while in office.
Sitting down with Lesley Stahl, Schwarzenegger said he was not necessarily for or against gay marriage, but feels that everyone should have the right to the same marriage ceremony he experienced. Hopefully these folks actual marriages go a little more smoothly than his own, of course.
Schwarzenegger married his assistant and chief of staff Susan Kennedy while serving as governor, saying of the latter; “I don’t have to be for gay marriage. I’m for that she gets the kind of wedding and the kind of ceremony that I had when I got married with Maria. That she happens to love a woman, and I am– a guy that loves a woman, that is two different things. It doesn’t make any difference. She should still have her ceremony.”
Oddly, Schwarzenegger vetoed two bills while in office that would have legalized same-sex marriage in California, making it seem that this move may have been more to appease his own political party than his actual personal beliefs.
Who knew Arnie would become a same-sex marrying machine?!
