Asanni Armon does it all for the gworls.

The genderqueer community organizer and recording artist is a pillar of New York City’s queer and trans nightlife scene, where they throw popular events under the alias For the Gworls (FTG). But an FTG fête is no ordinary party: Armon and their team of trans organizers use these events as mutual-aid fundraisers directly benefiting Black trans people in need of safe housing, basic health care, or gender-affirming surgery.

FTG threw its inaugural party in 2019 to a massive turnout. The rest, as they say, was history. In 2022 alone, the team has redistributed a whopping $2.2 million to Black trans folks around the world. Their work has also been recognized by the likes of Rihanna, who has partnered with FTG for SavageXFenty’s ‘22 Pride campaign.

“Communities that are underserved, communities that don't have access to resources, job opportunities, health care — we've always had to show up for one another,” Armon tells Logo. “Even going back to the Harlem Renaissance, the idea of the rent party kind of started there. So that's really directly where FTG draws from: that history of Black people having to show up for each other because the government, job opportunities, and the American economic market writ large has always been built on the oppression of Black people.”

In addition to supporting their fellow gworls, Armon is a rapper and songwriter. They released their debut song and music video, “Bucket Nekkid,” last year.

As for the future of FTG? Armon is setting their sights high: “Well, we're probably gonna take over the world. We'll make sure that we are in everyone's home by tomorrow, and then we'll probably be on different planets by next week.”

Given FTG’s packed event schedule for Pride Month, world domination seems feasible! Learn more about Armon and the rest of our incredible 2022 Logo30 honorees in the video below.
