Cameron Crowe may be one of the most low-key and affable directors around. I mean, have you seen the guy? It seems like he would get upset if he ever raised his voice to another person. And yet it appears that even Ashton Kutcher managed to piss the dude off.

In a new interview Crowe at long last addresses the rumors that Kutcher was fired from the film Elizabethtown, explaining Kutcher needed to devote a few weeks to prepare for filming, something he was not willing to do.

"I'll spend months working with an actor, and I think I spent four months with Ashton," Crowe says. "At a certain point, it's like, 'This is not meant to be.' "

So, to break this down, Orlando Bloom and Kristen Dunst, who at that time was perhaps the biggest female in Hollywood, had a few weeks to devote to the production, but not then sitcom star Kutcher? Really?

Sadly, it seems like Kutcher was the one who came out on top as Elizabethtown proved to be a box office dud. But Crowe has no regrets.

"It felt like a noble crusade."
