Attack at Gay Club Leaves Employee With a Fractured Skull

Another was left with a fractured foot.

Three people at a gay bar in London turned violent when asked to leave, causing serious injuries to staff. One employee was left with a skull fracture and another with a fractured foot.

Two men, ages 42 and 30, and a woman, aged 20, were asked to leave a smoking area at Eagle London in the early hours of July 2. Instead of complying, the trio began hurling homophobic slurs at workers, prompting them to ask the unruly patrons to leave the club altogether.

It was at that point, the Evening Standard reports, that they become violent.

Police were called and all three were taken into custody before being released under investigation.

"This was a particularly vicious attack which stemmed from a minor incident and involved the use of homophobic language," said Investigating officer, Detective Constable Phill Govett. “Hate crime in any form will not be tolerated by police and we will take all possible action to bring perpetrators of these offences to justice."

The attack comes shortly after the results of a UK government funded study showed 40% of those surveyed said they had experienced a hate crime, with more than 90% of the most serious of those offenses going unreported.

“We can be proud that the UK is a world leader in advancing LGBT rights, but the overwhelming response to our survey has shone a light on the many areas where we can improve the lives of LGBT people," Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement.
