Australian Politician Opposes Anal Sex "Full Stop"

"Now, you can keep trying to trick me into a different position."

The Queensland parliament finally equalized the age of consent between vaginal and anal sex, making it the last territory in Australia to do so.

But some legislators aren't happy about it.

MPs Shane Knuth and Robbie Katter voted against the measure and say they oppose anal intercourse "full stop."

"We’ve always been very consistent in, you know, our position, when it comes to, you know, same-sex marriage, or, or... what’s the other one? Civil unions!" Knuth told Buzzfeed's Lane Sainty.

"We just feel that, you know, we’d be hypocritical to support the removal of aged consent for anal sex."

Knuth added that the party's position has always been that sexual relationships should be "between a male and a female, a man and a woman."

Whether Knuth knows that heterosexuals have anal sex, too, is unclear.

Asked if he thought homosexuality should be re-criminalized, Knuth demurred. But he underscored the party's opposition to anal sex between men.

"We just don’t believe in it full stop. Whether it’s 16, 20, 18, we don’t believe it in full stop."

Equalizing the age of consent opens the door for sexual predators, he explained. "I think that it would probably give more of a possible predatory approach to the younger generation. It’s getting a bit cagey to reduce that age down—will they want to bring it down to 14, or 12, later on?"

Apparently there are no heterosexual predators in Australia.

Pressed for an explanation of why anal sex is so much worse than vaginal sex, Knuth just stuck to his guns.

"We don’t support anal sex full stop. And the lowering of it," he responded. "Now, you can keep trying to trick me into a different position, but... what I’m saying is that we don’t support it, full stop."

Is "full stop" Knuth's safe word?

Both he and Robbie Katter are members of Katter's Australian Party, founded by Robbie's father, Bob Katter, in 2011.

The 71-year-old party leader has been a vocal opponent of LGBT rights for decades: In 1989, he insisted there were almost no homosexuals in North Queensland, and swore he'd walk backwards from New South Wales if they were more than 0.001% of the population. (A trek of more than 2,000 miles.)

And despite having a brother who is gay, Rob Katter voted against decriminalizing homosexuality in 1994. More recently he declared same-sex marriage "deserves to be laughed at and ridiculed."
