B52's Kate Pierson Marries Longtime Girlfriend In Hawaii

Love shack, baby!

Kate Pierson, co-founder of the B52's, took to her Facebook page yesterday to announce her marriage to longtime lover Monica Coleman.

The 67-year-old singer and her new bride got married in Hawaii, in front of friends, family, and of course, her bandmates.

Sia was also in attendance and performed “Crush Me With Your Love," a song she wrote for Pierson for her first solo album, Guitars and Microphones, that was released earlier this year.

The newlyweds looked beautiful in their elegant wedding gowns, complete with leis to help them get in the spirit of their Hawaiian surroundings.

In an interview with Spin magazine earlier this year, Pierson discussed her personal journey of self acceptance.

"All our friends — so many friends are gay or lesbian and transgender. We’re just in that world. We all went through the devastating time of the AIDS crisis and I think that galvanized us to be more activists — AIDS activists. I think through that struggle we’ve tried to do a lot of benefits and stuff. I think the meaning of ‘gay' became more solidified," she shared. "One of the things the B-52s wanted to accomplish was for people to embrace their differences and encourage people to be who they are and accept themselves."
