Barbie Gets A Couture Makeover For Fashion Week: PHOTOS
Barbie is gearing up for Fashion Week with two new collaborations with luxury fashion on both sides of the Atlantic.
In London, Mattel's homegirl is getting her own department in Selfridges' Toy Shop, with an edgy wardrobe from up-and-coming designers Fred Butler, Nasir Mazhar and Sister by Sibling.
Each of the designers have created custom-made outfits for the petite fashion icon, Fashionista reports, and Mazhar even let Barbie’s BF Ken in on the fun—sorta. (He gets to wear a bucket on his head.)
“I basically spent the majority of my childhood playtime making outfits for my Barbie,”says Butler. “The fascination never went so when I eventually studied fashion design, I used to create mock-up shapes on a Barbie.”
The designs range from "teensy intarsia knitwear" to color-blocked street duds and "sculptural origami." The store will also display collector’s editions from Barbie’s extensive wardrobe archives (Chanel, Prada, and over a billion pairs of shoes).

Can't get across the pond? U.S. luxury retailer Coach is also doing a couture Barbie. Like a modern-age That Girl, she's dressed in a classic Coach trench, striped sweater, round custom-colored Patty sunglasses, mini Tristen sandals, Ultrasuede skirt (inspired by archival Bonnie Cashin designs) and her very own Coach Classic Duffle purse—the first time Barbie's been given a genuine leather bag.
Coach's Barbie retails for $95 and is available online. Check her out below:
