Barilla Pasta Chairman Not A Fan Of The Gays, Tells Them To “Go Eat Another Brand”

Screen shot 2013-09-26 at 1.33.44 PMIn what we are fairly certain is every publicist’s worst nightmare, Guido Barilla, the chairman of Barilla pasta, decided to come out and let everyone know just how much he does not like gay people the other day. Because what better way to keep your share of the pasta market (50% in Italy, 25% in the USA) than by some good old-fashioned hate speech?

Those British blokes and birds over at The Independent were kind enough to translate the original Italian report, from a radio show, where Barilla stated:

I would never do an advert with a homosexual family … If the gays don’t like it they can go an eat another brand. For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company.

Then, likely realizing he probably could have been a little more charming, he added:

I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose.

How do you say “dickhead” in Italian?  Also, hope Mrs. Barilla ain’t too attached to all those fun Milan Fashion Week parties she just enjoyed. Cause, trust us girl, those invites are gonna be lost in the mail for years to come.

Barilla gave a lukewarm mea culpa today, saying in a statement, “I apologize if my words have generated controversy or misunderstanding, or if they hurt someone’s sensitivity.”

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re gonna go make some quinoa for lunch.
