Beard Implants Are A Real Thing, And Becoming More Popular

We like beards just fine: On some men, they look amazing, on others, not so much. Either way, being beard-free has never been a deal breaker. So we're surprised that the folically-challenged among us in England have taken to getting beard implants.

Dr. Bessam Farjo, founder of the Farjo Hair Institute, pioneered the world's first facial-hair transplant in 1996. Since then, he's seen the number of men using surgery to up their follicle count grow sixfold every year: "A full beard is very much a statement look, and it goes in and out of fashion. For the last 12 to 18 months, there has been a noticeable rise in the number of men coming to my practice wanting to fill in bald patches or thicken wisps of hair."

Hair-transplant procedures are the most popular form of cosmetic surgery for men in the UK. Facial hair transplants follow the same procedure as traditional hair transplants: harvesting donor hair from the back of the head and placing it on the "afflicted" area.

Just so long as the hair comes from your head and not someplace further south.
