Bebe Zahara Benet’s “Banjo” Is the Bouncy Bop We Need Right Now

Come through, Cameroon!

Bebe Zahara Benet won over a whole new legion of fans in 2018 when she sashayed back into the workroom on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 3, almost a decade after being crowned the first Drag Race winner.

One of the most memorable All Stars moments was Bebe’s verse during the “Drag Up Your Life” challenge, when she gifted the world with these iconic lyrics: “Rakatatiti tata! Yeah, I’m pussy, bitch!”

Bebe continued her foray into music with her ferocious 2018 single, "Jungle Kitty," and now she's back with a new track, "Banjo," off of her upcoming Broken English EP.

"It’s been two years since I released original music. 'Banjo' and, to a larger extent, my forthcoming EP, Broken English, really reflect a fusion of my two homes: West Africa, my birth place, and the U.S., my chosen home," Bebe exclusively tells NewNowNext.

"It’s a mix of Caribbean melodies, Afrobeat rhythms, and pop sensibilities," Bebe continues. "I love my past work, but none of it reflects where I’m at in life now as much as this project. I’ve grown leaps and bounds as an artist and I think people will hear that on this single and upcoming EP."

Bebe has also released a music video for the bouncy bop that shows her dancing around colorful sets while celebs like Daniel Franzese, Jai Rodriguez, and Dexter Mayfield ignore her fierce looks.

"Today people crave music that transcends the barriers of genre or physical location," Bebe explains. "That's the impact of world music and the influence of Afropop. And that’s what I love about Broken English. People who haven’t experienced my music before will enjoy it and those who have heard my music before can discover new sounds and learn more about me."
