Before He Committed Suicide, This Trans Teen Said He Didn't Want His Death To Be A "Sob Story"

"Don't turn my name into a hashtag."

A suicide note written by a Wisconsin trans boy who killed himself last week revealed that he didn't want his death to be another sad statistic representative of the transgender community.

16-year-old Skylar Lee scheduled a Tumblr post at 6am on the morning of his death, revealing that it was depression, not being transgender, that made him decide to take his life.

"I am a depressed teen like many others," he wrote. "However, what I am not, is a sob story."

"Don’t turn my name into a hashtag," he continued. "Don’t treat this like glory suicide-fest. I am not killing myself because I am trans and queer."

The teen then went on to say that he felt the media's portrayal of trans suicides often triggers more trouble.

"However what I do know, is that when trans and queer kids complete suicide, that there is a chain reaction. This is only heightened by the media portrayal of us being sob stories. I am not a sob story, do not turn me into one."
