Benedict Cumberbatch Is Gay WWII Hero Alan Turing In "The Imitation Game" Trailer: WATCH

Get the Oscars ready because The Imitation Game, the biopic about disgraced World War II codebreaker Alan Turing is hitting theaters this fall. Turing's efforts helped to defeat the Nazis, but his heroism was overlooked when he was charged with the then-illegal crime of homosexuality under British law in 1952. He took his own life two years later.

The film and Cumberbatch are already garnering rave reviews, with the former walking away with the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival — an early Academy Award predictor. A synopsis of the film:

Based on the real life story of Alan Turing (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), who is credited with cracking the German Enigma code, The Imitation Game portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain's top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, but his work and legacy live on.
