Bernie Sanders to Appear at CNN/HRC LGBTQ Town Hall (Maybe)

The Democratic presidential candidate had previously said he would not attend.

Sen. Bernie Sanders is scheduled to attend the LGBTQ town hall hosted by CNN and the Human Rights Campaign on October 10, after initially saying he would not participate due to a scheduling conflict. He did not attend the LGBTQ forum hosted on September 20, in Iowa, presented by GLAAD, One Iowa, The Advocate, and The Gazette, again citing a scheduling conflict.

Sanders still might not be able to attend, however, as he has cancelled all campaign events indefinitely while he recovers from surgery. The Democratic presidential candidate's senior adviser Jeff Weaver released a statement saying "appropriate updates" will be provided going forward as he recuperates.

The Vermont senator was hospitalized Tuesday evening after experiencing chest pains. Doctors successfully cleared a blockage in one of his arteries and inserted two stints. According to Weaver, he is "conversing and in good spirits" and will be "resting up over the next few days."

While the word is still out on if Sanders will be feeling up to attending the town hall, two candidates are still saying they will not be participating due to scheduling conflicts: Andrew Yang and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

CNN will air the historic event live from 7pm-12am, on October 10, the eve of National Coming Out Day. It will be the first such event to be aired on a major news network.

Sanders will be interviewed by Bash at 7:30pm.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will be interviewed by Anderson Cooper at 8pm.
