47 Times Beth Ditto Was The Fat Femme Style Queen Of Our Dreams
Beth Ditto wears many hats—she's the frontwoman for Gossip, a memoirist, advice columnist, outspoken feminist and LGBT activist. She's also a fashion plate, having walked the runway for Versace, Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier. Last year Ditto launched an eponymous plus-size collection that included form-fitting dresses, leggings and silk jumpsuits.
"So much of plus-size fashion is disposable and way, way fucking overpriced for what it is," she told the Guardian. "You end up feeling like you’re being marginalized.”
And she's never been shy about claiming her size: "I’ve always been really comfortable with the word 'fat.' I don’t really give a shit about the word 'curvy," she explains. "I understand why people use it but that’s not anything that I've ever identified [with]. I’m not a road, you know?"
As she drops her first full-length studio album, Fake Sugar, today, we celebrate Beth Ditto as a fashion-forward queen of style.
Like a pop art installation come to life, Ditto was the belle of the ball at the 2016 "Ma Terrazza" opening party at Bus Palladium, sporting bold eyeliner and an even bolder cocktail dress.
Arm-and-arm with fellow rocker Debbie Harry, Ditto rocked a floral two-piece suit and sky-high gilded platforms at the 2017 Elle Style Awards. The stylish pair were a match made in girl-power heaven.
Her fabulous line of dresses, jackets and tees is a point of pride for Ditto, who wore one of her own silk dresses (in the colorful Eat Your Makeup palette) at launch party at London's Selfridges. She perfectly accessorized the look with a bleach-blonde 'do and gold "BETH" balloons.
The satin. The flames. The rose appliqué. That fire engine-red lipstick. Ditto outdid herself in this rock-glam number in the music video for 2017’s “Fire”
Sure, the bar she's singing in is erupting into chaos, but Ditto never fails to take center stage.
Performing in Seattle in 2013 for Yahoo's On The Road tour, Ditto stunned in a daring figure-hugging black romper. It's precisely the kind of look that's cemented her place as a body-positive queen.
Ditto and wife Kristin Ogata celebrated their four-year anniversary in May—and the rocker was dressed to the nines in a blue-and-silver suit and turban from Gucci's 2018 resort collection.
Sure, the dress is an outrageous show-stopper, but the real star of this look is Ditto's eye makeup. The bottom-lash falsies and sky-high winged liner call even more attention to the artist's playful style.
Looking like a sequined goddess at the ECHO German Music Awards in April, Ditto donned a glitzy ombre bodycon dress. It's a show-stopping look, for sure, and she sells it with funky red carpet poses and trademark sass.
Ditto looks absolutely darling in an off-white, off-the-shoulder number.
