Bill Condon Of "Dreamgirls" Fame To Direct Live-Action "Beauty And The Beast"
Another day, another Disney live-action remake. On the bitchin' heels of Maleficent, and with Cinderella slated for next year, Disney has signed on Dreamgirls and Twilight director Bill Condon to helm a live-action Beauty and The Beast.
The beloved 1991 classic was the first animated film nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, winning two trophies, and earning over $424 million worldwide along the way. In 2002, it was inducted into the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." And it's currently ranked #245 in IMDb's top 250 list -- so Condon's got some big ballgowns to fill.
But according to The Hollywood Reporter, the openly gay director's name has been "circling" the project for "several months" and no wonder -- he certainly knows a thing or two about filming a good twirl:
Let's just hope Angie Lansbury is still alive and kickin' to film at least a cameo. Though, let's be real, she and Betty White will outlive us all.
