"Easy Target": Bitch Is Back With a Bold, Beautiful New Music Video

"The video gave me the chance to visualize the spiritual intersections of Bitch's artmaking," says director Joey Soloway.

Bitch is conjuring up a spell with her upcoming album, Bitchcraft, out February 4, 2022, from Kill Rock Stars records.

The queer rocker kicked off her new era last month with the album's lead single, "Hello Meadow," a psychedelic, frenetic frenzy of a jam. Her follow-up, "Easy Target," is out now along with a vibrant music video for the track directed by Joey Soloway, creator of Transparent.

"When I first listened to 'Easy Target,' I had so many emotions. I think it suddenly made me feel safe — that even if people come after us, we're not alone," Soloway tells Logo. "Sometimes our only option is to be a willing target if we want to speak our truth and change the world. Directing this music video gave me the chance to visualize the spiritual intersections of Bitch's artmaking — through music, performance, poetry and politics. She's a force to be reckoned with!"

When it came to working with Soloway on the "Easy Target" video, Bitch says it was "a dream come true."

"When they heard the song and were so moved by it, it let me hear the song through their eyes — an artist whose work I respect so much," she explains. "They called on their trusted crew and family to make it all happen. Joey brought in the incredible painter Iva Gueorguieva and gave her my bedazzled magic broom, with the assignment to use the same color palette from the broom on the hand-made suit, made by costume designer Marie Schley, and on the violin."

"It was all very carefully constructed," Bitch adds, "and their vision of me with mostly sky gives it an undeniable beauty that I couldn’t really see until I saw the playback."

Bitch's forthcoming record has been described as "Joni Mitchell set to a click track," and an album that "makes you think: about the state of the world, about evil politicians, about what it means to exist as a woman, and how to find joy along the way."

"Easy Target" is full of personal and confessional lyrics, with Bitch singing about how she can "stand up here and take it like a man," but at the end of the day, she's "just proud." The video shows Bitch dancing in a bold jumpsuit with a bedazzled broom as her partner in front of a dazzling blue sky.
