Problematic fave Scarlett Johansson is back in the catsuit again, reprising her role as the first female superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the new film Marvel Studios' Black Widow.

We know what you're thinking: What an ungainly title. But also, didn't Natasha Romanoff, like, totally die in Avengers: Endgame—which is not a spoiler at this point because what are you doing with your life?

Why, yes, in a movie full of questionable decisions, mostly of the wig variety—BW's two-tone moment was ill advised, while Captain Marvel's butch bob nearly tore the internet asunder—Endgame killed off Black Widow by having her sacrifice herself for the sake of the universe and blah blah blah.

Well, while you were busy wishing it had been Hawkeye instead, the MCU was planning on fucking it all up anyway with what appears to be a prequel that (finally) reveals the origins of our favorite Russian spy.

Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Black Widow finds Romanoff confronting her past and reuniting with some old, and rather lethal, acquaintances.

Florence Pugh plays a fellow spy, Yelena Belova; Stranger Things' David Harbour is the Russian answer to Captain America, Red Guardian; and Rachel Weisz is here, so sign us up already. She is another Black Widow, Melina Vostokoff, though the trailer doesn't give much love to the Oscar winner, besides some typically sultry shade.

Meanwhile, we stan a zaftig zuper.

Directed by Cate Shortland, this film will most likely be the final installment in Black Widow's journey, while also setting up Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sometimes you gotta look back in order to move forward, or whatever. Of course, the timing seems a little off. Black Widow made her debut in Iron Man 2, and it only took 10 years, her canonical death, and 45 Spider-Man iterations to give BW her own movie. Progress.
